We had the good fortune of connecting with Einjar Fabrega and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Einjar, what inspires you?
Since I was little I developed a charm for the art of cinema in general. I spent many hours researching movies, series, among others. As time went by, I ended up falling in love with CGI and computer animation, more specifically the character rigging branch. This is because I am a big fan of bringing fantastic characters to life like Dragons, chimeras, among others. In fact, one of my favorite characters is Dobbi the elf from Harry Potter. The person in charge of bringing it to life and making it look so incredible was Laurie Brugger, a former student at Full Sail University, a university where I also studied. Laurie was also an inspiration to me because she is an artist who aspired to follow in her footsteps and be like her one day.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a Rigging Artist, my art is perhaps not as striking as an animator or a Modeler. It is a very technical part of art in which what shines most is how you work on the character’s skin. I would say that what separates me from others is the encouragement and effort I put into my work so that it looks the best possible. I like to create characters that transmit and share messages and emotions.
To get to where I am, I had to fight a lot. I am international and it is not easy for us to just be able to study at a university in the United States. There is a lot of background paperwork, a lot of waiting, a lot of money invested and finally having to learn to fend for yourself at a very young age. It is an extremely rocky path full of many stumbling blocks, but it is possible with effort.
Usually to overcome difficulties you have to make a lot of sacrifice, not only on my part, but also on my parents who are the ones who support me the most. When you have to get ahead and your parents or your people are not around, you learn in every aspect of your life. From basic things like cooking and doing your chores to having to learn to organize and use your money wisely. On the other hand, know well who you surround yourself with because not all those who seem like friends are. I would like to be remembered for my work. I would like people to be able to differentiate my work from others and to know. One of my goals is to transmit with my works messages of encouragement and hope and mainly of affection and compassion. I feel that these are things that are lost every day in our world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not a person who likes to travel very much, however, if a friend visits me I would take them to my province. I would show all the beautiful places in my city, the beaches, the squares and above all I would give them a tour of the streets in which I got used to growing up. I would show him the customs of my lands, the traditions, dances and foods.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, the special person who pushed me far beyond my limits was my dad. Airplane Captain Cloisperr Fabrega. My old man dedicated his life so that my brother and I could get ahead and overcome our limits. He always taught us not only with words but he gave us real examples in which he surpassed himself even when no one believed he could be better, he continued to do it. My dad lived in a house with a dirt floor and zinc walls in a province of Panama where we come from called Veraguas. He never had money but he managed to pursue his dream of flying airplanes, a profession that is very difficult for anyone to achieve. However, he was able to do it and in 20 years he went from flying the smallest plane in all of Panama to flying the largest plane in all of Panama, the Boeing 767. Only a select group of people in Panama is capable of flying this plane and my father He was one of the first. Working for DHL during covid 19, he was one of those who tirelessly carried vaccines and supplies throughout Latin America and South America. Having someone like a father supporting me, it is impossible to want to give up.
