We had the good fortune of connecting with Eli Arnold and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eli, why did you pursue a creative career?
Music has always been the only thing I was good at. I taught myself to sing at a young age and have been pursuing ever since. I learned to play bass and guitar without instruction, and was taught to play piano as a toddler. I would spend hours and hours just listening to songs from the radio, dreaming of the day I could do that same thing. For me there is no other career choice, no alternative option, no Plan B. This is it. This is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and there has never been a serious thought about doing something else.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m extremely excited to put music out for my solo project called Alien Lord, which is an anagram of my name. I’m a huge sci-fi nerd, so anything space themed was absolutely necessary. I’m working on new music at the moment and plan to have it out by January 2024 at the latest, so it’s an exciting time to be me right now. Especially when you consider how long it took to get here. I’ve been through band break-ups, months or even years of downtime, ridicule and criticism, even had former band members try to control everything I did both inside and outside of music. Between the all night writing sessions, the countless hours spent in the vocal booth, the fights, the egos, the great shows and the ones no one showed up for, being where I am now seemed like a dream I was never gonna achieve. And even this is not enough. I can’t stop until I’m on top of the world. I want all those little black kids who were growing up just like me listening to rock and metal to know that there’s someone out there doing the damn thing that’s just like them. Maybe they’re not black enough for the black kids or white enough for the white kids. Maybe people call them weird or “whitewashed” or “Oreo”. Maybe they’ve never fit in. That’s who I do this for.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well if they’re a best friend of mine they HAVE to like metal, so a good old fashion metal show at the Palladium or the Wiltern is an absolute must do. I know every Angelino LOVES hiking for some reason but I’m not about that life in any way, BUT we could definitely drive up to the Hollywood sign for some pics. We could go for an early dinner at Bossa Nova, one of my favorite restaurants in LA so far. Then we’d hop over a few blocks to the Rainbow Bar and Grill for some pre-show drinks before we hit yet another metal show at the world famous Whiskey A Go-Go, easily one of the coolest stages I’ve ever been on. Then there’s the Santa Monica Pier, Downtown, Malibu, Beverly Hills, The Griffith Observatory, the Walk of Fame, maybe we catch a taping of Jimmy Kimmel, and if there’s time we would HAVE to hit the Venice Boardwalk, especially if it’s summer. There’s always a million things going on in LA, it’s hard to decide sometimes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A lot of people have told me that I should give up, that I’ll never succeed, that I’m not good enough. And for a long time I believed them. But my brother Isaac encouraged me to pursue my passion and keep following my dream, and I haven’t looked back since. This Shoutout is for him. Love you bro!
