We had the good fortune of connecting with Seth Grady and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seth, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important and key factors in the current success I have, is collaboration, focus and consistency.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In 2011 I started music production how this venture came about is since I was young I always wanted to be an “Artist”. When in high school I quit being rapping due to negative comments, As the saying goes when one door closes another one opens. I sat in my room one day reminiscing of all my musical experiences such as: “Drumming”, and “Rapping”. A particular memory came to me where I was rapping as a child in the room with my brother and he was on a program called “FL Studio”. Finally I remembered the DAWs name and immediately began downloading the trial version and started learning. I immediately fell in love and KNEW my passion. I took the money from my job that I was saving and bought equipment such as: Speaker Monitors, a Laptop and a Keyboard. Everyday at 6AM I would wake up to get ready for school I would unplug my speaker, made sure my laptop was in my bag and brought my midi controller to school. When ever study hall was happening I would cook up beats and after school, before I went home. It did not matter where I was I was always making beats.
2 years into making beats I started to get really good and I reached out to @montanaof300 looking to work together long term, through consistency I finally got my opportunity and received my first big placement in 2013 with the record “Goonies” featuring Kevin Gates on the album “Fire In The Church”.
I got to where I am today by being consistent and NEVER giving up even faced with all the challenges I have experienced such as having my laptop stolen, computers crashing completely losing all of my beats and files and even external hard drives breaking having years worth of material. The day I had gotten my laptop stolen I woke immediately the next day and made a video stating “To who ever has my laptop out there I’m not even tripping, the millions aren’t in that laptop they are in my mind”. And from there I got new equipment and upgraded.
What separates me from the next individual is my energy, being genuine, being able to truly take peoples idea and making them come to life, being able to truly help people without looking for something in return. A lot of people in this industry are vultures and in it for themself when in life everyone needs each other in order to succeed.
What I have learned in my 11 years in the music side of business is do NOT be naive, there’s the metaphor when something sounds to good to be true it usually is.
When being an artist, producer or engineer be knowledgeable about this business so that someone doesn’t take advantage of you.
What I want the world to know about my brand “TyeProductionz” is for the artist out there looking to truly build long term with a professional that will have their best interest I would love to hear from you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Syracuse, New York. I would recommend going to Destiny USA which is ranked #1 for the largest mall in New York.
Something I personally love going to is the New York State fair located in Solvay, New York. Where people from all over the United States come to experience, in 2019 it had a record breaking attendance of 1,329,275 people!
There’s so much to do and experience from Rides, Alcohol, Great food, games, animal farms, butter sculptures and more.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The number one thanks and shoutout to truly is my brother Brendon, he was as a child my biggest influence musically if it weren’t for him showing me FL Studio when I was a child I probably wouldn’t be at where I am now. Gratitude I also want to shoutout my biggest supporter out of my family, my sister Monique. Ever since I was young she always showed major love no matter what I did and was genuinely always proud she constantly shows people my work when she is networking herself and always turns up when she hears my content.
I also want to shout out my wife Lauryn who constantly shows love and support who shoots my pictures, and videos while showcasing my work to people who are interested in helping their career.
My father who thankfully due to his genetics, music runs in our bloodline he himself is multi talented musically.
And last but not least my mother who ever since I was a child did the best she could to support three children and always being there.
