We had the good fortune of connecting with Eligh Nachowitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eligh, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
10/13/2005, I put myself in rehab. I was completely in the grips of addiction. At that point, heroin was my drug of choice. I wasn’t making music, art, nothing. I was chasing dope everyday. Until I had enough. If I didn’t decide to surrender, I would of died. Not because I wanted to die, just due to the nature of the disease of addiction, it was the next logical step. Obviously, that decision was paramount to my life and career as an artist. Ive been clean for 15 years, and all my art and music in these past 15, speak recovery in some form or fashion. As a result, many of my listeners, supporters, have also heard the message, and got clean themselves. I cant tell you how good that feels. I always celebrate my clean anniversary in public on my social media, because I want people to know whats possible.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have so many avanue’s Im working as an indie artist. Patreon.com/eligh has been crucial to my survival during these last couple years, especially during these crazy uncertain, non-touring months. Im proud to have built such a supportive space, full of exclusive art, music, podcasts, video chats, phone calls, and more. I have 5 albums coming, its ridiculous! I was supposed to drop at least two of them last year, but for obvious reasons, that didn’t happen. So 2021 will be insane. Ive also been full force into the crypto art world of NFTs. Ive put up 20 pieces so far on foundation.app/eligh, and sold 17 of them. Its still such a new world, Im just getting started there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Mannn, well, being a new dad, in the midst of an ongoing pandemic, I would’nt be suggesting going anywhere in doors haha. So, Malibu, the beach, or out to the Promenade in Santa Monica to walk outdoors in the sun. Sushi to go in Encino, from Okumura is where I would eat. Hitting up the farmers market in Hollywood, then to Amoeba for some $1 record bin digging as well. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a shot out to the small rehab in Northridge CA, where I got clean, New Perceptions. Since covid hit, they have been hit hard as well. I hope more addicts find their way through New Perceptions. Also a big shot out to Music Cares, who paid for my rehab, and sober living for a few months. Without them, I couldn’t afford rehab in the first place.
