We had the good fortune of connecting with Ella Bourne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ella, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Oh, so many things. I think from the outside it can appear that it’s all fun and games but to truly carve a career in the arts, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. More like 24/7 than 9 to 5. Don’t get me wrong – it is SO much fun, and so exciting to get to act but it does take consistent hard work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an actor, I’m from a small town in Australia called Apollo Bay and I knew I wanted to be an actor when I was 8 years old. I always had a fascination with California. I never thought I would end up living and working here! it’s a dream come true.

The journey to becoming an actor has certainly taken me to places I never thought I’d go and given experiences beyond my wildest dreams. I think the main thing it has taught me is humility. You can get caught up with the appearance of the glamorous side of the industry but at the end of the day it’s about telling stories and sharing that with humanity. There are so many times in this career when you think you’re ready to call it quits but something will always pop up to keep you in. Whether it’s a project, an audition or hearing someone else’s story.

Julie’s writing in ‘Bothered’ is one of those things for me. It’s one of those projects that you go ‘ah yes, this is why I want to act’. It’s just so funny and well written and so relatable for the audience that it’s just an honor to be part of it. And to work alongside so many talented people who I’m also lucky enough to call friends!

Another recent project I’m extremely excited about is Flunk, it’s an Australian LGBT+ drama series. I was so lucky to join the cast for Season 3 which has just been released. To me it’s part of my original purpose of pursuing this career. Flunk tells coming of age stories of LGBT+ youth. These stories are vital so people in these communities are represented.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Places we’d be going for coffee and food; Verve in WeHo, Great White in Venice and Trails Cafe at Griffith Park. We’d be eating at Gracias Madre in Beverley Hills, Rose Cafe in Venice and Tesse in West Hollywood.

I LOVE going to live comedy shows so we’d go to The Comedy Store, especially on a Tuesday night when incredible comedians come up and test their new material. I also love the Laugh Factory!

Another thing we’d be doing is taking a trip up PCH to go and surf Topanga and Malibu. That’s where I love to go to feel at home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have helped me and continue to help me with my creative journey. My acting coach Mark McPherson at Studio24Seven has been an integral part of my journey transitioning from working in Australia to working in LA.

The community he’s created at Studio24Seven is the most supportive, creative and hardworking group of people. I never expected to find such a wonderful group of people in the middle of Hollywood! Another person I’d love to mention is my friend Julie who is an actor and show creator and a great friend. I love working with Julie and am honored to be working with her again on her next season of Bothered. Her writing is hysterical, grounded and just brilliant!

And of course my family and my partner Cooper, who is the most patient and understanding human. My family has always backed me 100% and to be honest I don’t know if I would’ve had enough faith in myself if they weren’t in the background going “If it makes you happy, it’s worth pursuing. We believe in you.”
