We had the good fortune of connecting with Ella Collier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ella, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor behind my success is the ugly part of work ethic. Most people see the glammed up, warmed up, dressed up version of me, curated to a sound and brand that is very authentic to me, but a heightened version of myself. Not many people see the other 90% of me in my sweats at my laptop on spreadsheets with my manager (shoutout to Jaryn!) conceptualizing social media tactics and planning promotions and photoshoots. Being the type of artist I want to be, I have to balance that intense drive and work ethic with a healthy life. I am very spiritual so meditation, prayer, time outside, journaling, etc. really makes me feel better and it helps me keep my mind on the bigger picture and goals at hand.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is me! That’s why I love it so much and that’s why I am so excited to debut my EP this Friday MAy 28th. Each & every track on this record is on purpose. Starting with cinderella, you get to know who I am on the outside first, with each track peeling the layer of the onion that is my experience becoming a 21 year old woman. You are not alone when you feel crazy, sad, fun, chaotic, moody, and that’s what this EP is about, finding your true self and embracing the conglomeration of emotions that make you who you are. Whether you’re a 12 year old boy who likes video games, 16 year old girl with a crush, a broke and fun 21 year old, or a 60 year old mother, my music is made for everyone to truly experience their true selves. I truly believe I will become best friends with everyone who listens to this EP, because we all feel it.
MOOD SWINGS epitomizes who I am and who I’vve become. by the end of the EP, you get to know some of my most intimate thoughts, and I definitely left a cliff hanger for you at the end…. that’s also on purpose 🙂
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
HAHA! I love this question. I love Los Angeles and I am actually planning a trip for my family to come out here this Summer. The best part about here is it has everything. Of course we would do the classics, and make a reservation for Nobu in Malibu 3 months ahead. I think it is hilarious that people have to do that. We would go to the beach in Malibu, it’s beautiful there, there is also an amazing (but kind of expensive) Pad Thai place called Cholada that is so yummy in Malibu. The vibes there are so fun so we would have to spend time there. I would do a classic Ella day where we get Dunkin Donuts coffee and do a Dunkin Review and post it on my TikTok ahahha. We would go to a scenic hike, I like Baldwin Hills because it’s closer to me, but on a fun day I would go to Hollywood sign hike or Laurel Canyon. I LOVE Joan’s On Third it’s one of my favorite lunch restaurants in LA, everyone loves their Chinese Chicken Salad. I love thrift shopping and I also love House Of CB which is where I get a lot of my show clothes! We would shop on Melrose, maybe hit Alfred’s coffee even though it is $6 for a coffee, it’s LA experience.
At night there are so many fun things to do, we could hit a show at Hotel Cafe, grab drinks. We could also get Jon N Vinny’s and go to an outlook and watch the sunset. I love CATCH in LA, it has great drinks and sushi. You have to experience Saddle Ranch at some point for the bull and fun drinks, then head to West Hollywood. I have so much fun there! All the LA NightClub stuff is super overrated, which I write about in my music, but it is definitely something you should experience. If you go to Clubs, I like Bootsy Bellows, but make sure you have a promoter, because NO club is worth paying to get in 🙂
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother deserves the recognition in my story! Not only has she fully supported this dream since before I could remember, but she truly did everything in her power to support my dream and still does to this day. She drove me to every little open mic I played throughout my childhood into high school, knew every word, and always made sure the sound was right! I can’t even begin to explain how much my mother and I have learned about the music industry together and grown together. She is an amazing mother who is also my best friend, I truly do not know who I would be without her or where I would be. She is a gem and although I am a stubborn CHAOTIC (obviously) person, she loves me and cherishes that side of me.
