We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellen Gerstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ellen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started studying the craft of acting when I was 28 years old. I had been a social worker for 6 years before that. I decided to live my life doing what I love.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe that what sets me apart from others in acting is that my study of characters is so in depth. I give credit to my graduate degree in psychology and study of people. I am very proud of the films I make, telling heartfelt stories about everyday heroes and people on the fringe of society with grit and humor. I got where I am today out of tremendous persistence and hope. It was extremely difficult. When challenges came up I would go cry for an hour and then carry on. The biggest lesson I have learned is if what you are doing is important enough, don’t let anyone stop you. I want everyone to know my mission is to connect people so they do not feel isolated. I do this through film, television and theater, by using diversity and a sense of humanity. I love what I do and I very much enjoy encouraging and helping people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
