We had the good fortune of connecting with Mara Chaben and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mara, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Currently I’ve been thinking a lot about the quote by Theodore Roosevelt, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” When building a businesses or a career or anything really, it’s so easy to look at everyone else and think you’re behind or you’ll never be as successful. Especially with social media and being able to have an inside look at people’s “embellished” personal / work lives, it’s common to compare. On top of that, the pandemic was such a curve ball – and it definitely elevated some companies simultaneously destroying others. Of course, maybe you’re not where you want to be, but it’s so important to remember how far you’ve come, be proud of yourself for all the milestones you have accomplished, and just have fun with whatever it is you’re doing. After all, in my eyes, everything is happening exactly as it’s supposed to in divine timing.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
ZenStop is LA’s only mobile meditation studio that brings a variety of approachable, live-taught, group meditation sessions to offices, companies, schools and events. Originally a Blue Bird school bus, ZenStop has been completely renovated on the inside equipped with stunning wood floors, a heightened ceiling and solar panels to power the bus. We recently launched in July of 2019 and during our first 8 months in business, ZenStop visited over 50 top companies in the LA area & over 3,000 unique students enjoyed meditations in our space. Drastically, within a week, our business that was created on the value of “meditation in community” was shut down due to COVID-19. Everyone has been disrupted in some way by COVID-19, and more, now than ever, people need meditation. People need tools to deal with real stress and anxiety. People need practices that will help boost their immune system and improve their sense of wellbeing. At this time, we have made a major pivot to offer ZenStop Live Stream: online meditations streamed to companies & organizations from the ZenStop bus. And we’ll get back to in person visits soon enough!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in El Segundo in the South Bay so we’d definitely stay at my place only a few minutes walking to the beach! We’d wake up, hit Blue Butterfly for some coffee and go for a run or bike up to Manhattan Beach. Then we’d grab lunch in Venice at the Butcher’s Daughter and go on a hike in Malibu. Definitely dinner at Gracias Madre. I love exploring all the hikes and unique wellness offerings we have here in Los Angeles. We also have an amazing vegetarian / vegan restaurant scene. When the yoga studios open back up, we’d definitely go to The Green Yogi in Manhattan Beach and Sweat Yoga. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my first yoga teacher, Jacquie Ciavaglia, who owns Community Yoga in the metro-Detroit area. I started practicing with Jacquie 11 years ago when I was 14 years old and I would never be doing what I am today without her inspiration.
