We had the good fortune of connecting with Elma Panagaki and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elma, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf”

This is my favorite quote and I have a tattoo with it on my arm to remind me that life is like the ocean; some days are calm, some other days arr challenging. We can learn to overcome the challenges – ride the waves – to feel strong, powerful and to believe in ourselves.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I moved 8 years ago from Athens, Greece to Los Angeles, CA, and I had to start from zero. Didn’t know anyone and wasn’t so comfortable with the language. It was really difficult in the beginning. I think I sent more than 100 resumes in the first week, I emailed every yoga studio in LA. I started with donation based classes and privates from Craigslist.

I’m like a “yoga nerd” and I’m taking different teacher trainings every year.
When you are so passionate with what you, do you will succeed!

I feel blessed every morning that I do something I love so much! I can change people’s lives, and help them be happier and healthier.
Never stop chasing your dreams!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is a beautiful place to live in! My favorite place is the beach, surfing or just watching the ocean, it’s so beautiful! My go to spot is Manhattan beach and biking, rollerblading or skateboarding on the bike path. A must is Abbot Kinney in Venice beach and try the açaí bowl in Butcher’s daughter and dinner at Piccolo Venice (best Italian ) Best place to watch the sunset is Point Vicente Lighthouse, (it’s romantic 😉 )

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tim Miller is my favorite teacher. I did my Ashtnaga teacher training with him and he helped me learn so many things not just in yoga, but also for life and for myself. I’m forever grateful for this experience!
