We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelley Gottlieb and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelley, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I went to college I graduated with my BS in interior design. I worked in the field for about 5 years. I wasn’t happy and felt that I wasn’t passionate about the line of work I had chosen. I knew the one thing I was passionate about my whole life was animals and caring for them. I quit the interior design job I had due to being unhappy with the company I worked for and the work itself. I was in a position to start something new and explored the world of pet sitting. As rewarding as it would be to care for animals either as a veterinarian or rescuing animals in need, I wanted to work in a field where animals were at their happiest. I did volunteer work at an animal hospital and it helped me realize that emotionally I wasn’t strong enough to care for injured animals. For me, the field of pet sitting is a place of joy and that’s why I chose to get involved in that area.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Los Angeles there is a lot to see and do! I would definitely take them to Santa Monica/3rd street, walk around the shops and grab some lunch. A day at The Grove would be another fun idea as far as walking around shops. Another must would be the Hollywood Farmer’s Market, enjoying street eats and live music. One of my other favorite spots is The Griffith Observatory and walking around the trails for some beautiful views. A day at The Getty Museum would be well spent and is one of my favorite museums. Another great museum is The Natural History museum as well. And last but not least we would have to go to Disneyland of course!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporters were my family and best friend Ellie Stella. They all supported me from day one and never questioned or doubted me. That kind of support is what helped me stay positive and continue moving forward.
