Meet Elvis Sierra | Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elvis Sierra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elvis, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Starting a business is definitely a roller coaster it has a lot of ups and downs. Depending on the year you have more of one than the other. The most important lesson I’ve learned has been to pivot and stay objective driven. Sometimes we lose sight of a specific goal when things don’t go our way. In my case, it can be losing a major client due to budget cuts. Rather than sulking about the loss, I’ve learned to accept it. Move on and create a strategy to get back on track to my goal.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
De Nada Creative is an all-service creative agency based out of Los Angeles. We pride ourselves is taking the time to give back to the community through design. We take on personal projects and create merch that tells a story and gives back to the community through donating from the profits of the sales. Giving back to the community helps us feel like were creating a balance in an industry that’s very consumer-driven.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friends are coming out of town and don’t have a clue what LA is like I would definitely take them to Downtown LA and head east. As soon as you hit downtown you start off with well-polished stores and nice bars and restaurants. When you start heading down you start walking into a different world in the fashion district. Its packed with people hustling trying to make a living by selling you clothing. You get to see a little bit more of an authentic los Angeles and the people who make the city what it is. I’d then hit La Placita Olvera for a cultural experience and wrap up the day in Little Tokyo with some sushi.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Throughout my career, I’ve had a strong support group. Starting off with my parents. Coming from a Hispanic background pursuing a creative career can sometimes be looked down upon. A graphic designer might not sound as good as a doctor or a lawyer. I was lucky enough that my parents supported my dream. I owe the start of my career to two Blakes. Blake Cadwell who gave me my first internship at Day One Agency and Blake Marquis who gave me the opportunity to work in an agency that taught me everything I know. In the midst of my career, Sam Farfsing and Jorge Andrade taught me the ropes of the advertising game and helped me grow as a designer and as a person. Showing me how to lead with compassion but also with a zero tolerance for B.S. Which is very important in the industry. Finally a special shoutout to Gelsey my life partner. Shes been there for my ups and all of my downs. She continues to push me forward and remind me that I can do it whenever I forget.
