Meet Emiliana Guereca: Entrepreneur/Activist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emiliana Guereca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emiliana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My career has completely been build on being a risk-taker; I’ve been a risk-taker by my circumstances and not necessarily by choice. Growing up in poverty makes you take risks. I’ve been fortunate enough to be rewarded by the risks I’ve taken.
I drove across the country to California with $200 to my name, my car, and cat, worked 24/7 to finish school, graduated school, and owned a successful business all in 2 years.
As I’ve grown, I’ve nurtured the ability to feel nervous but STILL leap. I firmly believe women need to trust themselves more in business and take risks with their future. You can’t win if you don’t risk anything. The world needs more female risk-takers as far as I’m concerned. Taking risks is good for the soul.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an entrepreneur at heart and own an Event Production company. I have produced concerts and street festivals for over a decade, but I am most known for being one of the Co-founders of Women’s March Los Angeles in 2016.
What was supposed to be a local march in Los Angeles turned out to be the largest protest in history with the largest turnout in Los Angeles.
I’m lucky to be able to balance my advocacy work with my entrepreneur mind. I’ve always been highly aware of the inequities that exist for women; gender equity has been my fight since being born.
Owning an event production company is not easy, especially since it’s a very male-dominated space. I’ve built a brand on being creative and agile. I love the process of creating events and bringing all of the pieces together.
I’m an event producer by trade and an activist by circumstances.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has soo many cool spots. I would take them on a hike or a run at Griffith Park and or surfing in Zuma Beach
As far as food? Oof, we have so many choices; if it’s my family from the midwest, we are visiting china town, plaza Olvera, Sawtelle Little Japan, and my dad’s favorite market on 5th and Broadway in DTLA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely shout out to all the Women. It’s the women that are holding this world together, it’s the women that fuel my work and process. Look around you and recognize that without Women the world would stall. Shout out to ALL the women that have come before me and to those just starting out I would say BE BOLD, TAKE RISKS, we got you!
