We had the good fortune of connecting with Emilio Izcal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emilio, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was a bit of a coincidence, a moment in which I needed to mix my creative restlessness with something that made me happy, to investigate how to create something permanent, with anime or pop art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I studied art and design but starting in the world of tattooing is never easy, despite what they want us to believe, there are people who are luckier or work harder and have a faster artistic growth and other people who take decades to get a good result.
In my case I started little by little and I am constantly growing.

What I think differentiates my art from the rest is that I don’t pretend to look for the purity of anime panels as such, I mix different scenes to create a unique composition, adapting it to the area I’m going to tattoo, paying special attention to details and with clean lines and high contrasts that make the composition stand out for being delicate and solid at the same time.

And finally I dedicated myself to making Anime tattoo pieces, because it’s something I’ve been excited about since I was little and I work a lot with my inner child when it comes to composing my designs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Madrid, a city where you can practically do everything at any time, hahahaha I must warn you that Spaniards have breakfast and dinner quite late compared to the rest of Europe.

So we would start with a brunch at BUCÓLICO. I love to do that plan when someone comes to visit me is one of the best brunch in Madrid.
We would walk around the RETIRO, and see the museum “El prado”.
We would have a few beers or vermouth in “Malasaña” having some tapas at noon.
After lunch I would go to a small cocktail bar in Lavapies “el Savas” for me one of the best cocktail bars in madrid.
For dinner as there are several days I could recommend different places, like “la Taberna Arayo” “Haranita” “Pólvora”… these are restaurants for dinner that I like a lot, but if you want to take something light in case you want to party for a while at night I recommend “el pez tortilla” there are several bars in madrid with this name and you can eat and drink well.
To go out it all depends on the mood you are in but the nights in Malasaña can be a lot of fun, it’s what I call event horizon.

And if this is not enough you can always stroll through the streets of downtown Madrid that have enough charm. In Madrid always look up because the amount of domes and sculptures that adorn the main buildings is amazing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The truth is that the recognition for what I do I have to give it to all the people around me, friends, family, my girlfriend… without them it would not be possible all that I have achieved today… they make me keep moving, always thinking, always creating.
One of the phrases I usually keep in mind is:
Create, destroy, repeat….
It’s what keeps me moving and keeps me active in what I do.
