Meet Emily Burnette | LA + Virtual Wardrobe and Personal Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Burnette and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Resiliency. Solo-preneurship and self employment are tough. It’s been an ongoing process to learn to ride the waves of the ebbing and flowing. I’ve learned to lean on my resources: confide with my immediate circle, meditation, surrendering to the process, not taking things personally and perservering in slow or very busy times.
It’s taught me resilience, with things out of my control like the strikes happening to figuring out how to build a business from the ground up. You constantly have to advocate for yourself and be your own cheerleader, it’s all-consuming and just as hard as it is- it is also rewarding.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love helping clients see their own potential and achieve their wardrobe dreams. I love when clients choose to invest in themselves and feel victorious in their clothing.
My styling business consists of private clients, ad/commercial, editorial and celebrity + musician styling. I love collaborating on all of these different aspects to create a diverse portfolio and continue to sharpen my skills.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a new-ish Angeleno, I found it best to get to know the city through it’s food. While NYC is bagels and pizza, LA is donuts and cheeseburgers…I mean, also street tacos- Leo’s + El Chido are my favorites!
I love Bacari, Meet in Paris, Musso and Frank Grill, and Melrose Umbrella Co has the best artisinal cocktails and I love the vibe at Lock and Key if you want a lounge and good music.
Temecula and Sonoma County hold a special place in my heart for wine tasting. For the best views, I love the Venice Canals, hiking the mountains and enjoying the quiet of Playa del Ray. Southern California is a really magical place and I’m lucky to now call it home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had so many people help me build this, believe in me and show me the ropes. While in college, I had an incredible professor, Dr. Holly Cline who really changed the game for me on my first day of fashion merchandising classes! I felt her belief, support and encouragement in her students and that lead me to believe in myself and that anything was possible. In my second year living in NYC, I met an amazing stylist, Samantha Brown who took me under her wing while I was working as a personal shopper at Barneys, she was my first mentor and who I still bounce ideas off all the time. I met Christina Pacelli whom I interned for and learned a great deal about celebrity styling. My friends Dena Cooper-Kelly an amazing designer, illustrator and energy healer and Patty Gainer a costumer turned voice actor both lended their sofas to me when I first got to NYC and helped me get my feet on the ground.
Present day, I couldn’t live without my styling soul sister, Renee Old, who is so talented styling celebrities and musicians and my bestie Sterling Champion who created The She Mark which is incredible. I am so lucky to give thanks to these people who played pivotal roles in my shaping.
