We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Cohen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Over 163 million Americans have a hormonal imbalance, from PCOS, to Insulin Resistance, to Endometriosis, to Diabetes. Food plays an active role in supporting or triggering symptoms. When my co-founder, Drew, was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance she was recommended a high protein, low carb diet. We were students in New York, running from class, to internships, to jobs, and relied on on-the-go snacks. However, Drew’s hormonal symptoms started to flare- up. Her skin was breaking out, she was losing hair, and her face was incredibly inflamed. We took a step back and realized the protein bars we were eating were filled with artificial, hormone disrupting ingredients. We like to say that we’re disrupting the “bro-tein” aisle and reclaiming our health from toxin-filled “diet” products.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Resist makes doctor-recommended, plant-based nutrition bars filled with science-backed ingredients for balanced hormones and a clinically proven stable blood sugar response. Our bars are free of hormone disruptive ingredients like sugar alcohols, IMOs, glycerin and natural flavors. Our wrappers are also free of endocrine disruptors that are commonly found in found packaging, like BPA & phthalates. Resist launched about 2 years with our cinnamon cacao maca and sold out… 3 times! We launched 2 more flavors (goji cherry chia & peanut butter turmeric) and have since won multiple awards, have been a part of a number of accelerators, and have some more exiciting wins in the pipeline.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
