We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Elkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important thing for me throughout my career has been to simply not give up. Iāve heard many ānoāsā and had many gigs fall through that I was sure were set in stone….and in times like that it can be so easy to think that thatās the end, or that maybe it was time to pivot career wise… But 100% of the time those low points have led to the biggest jobs/opportunities of my career. It is so important to have faith in your abilities and believe in your skill….because if you do others will as well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel proud of where my career has led me over the years…Ā I moved to LA from Buffalo NY almost 10 years ago now….I started from nothing and slowly began building connections with musicians and working as a session player….I moved to recording and touring with some of my favorite artists all around the world…and now my husband and I are expanding our reach with our own scoring/composition studio. It definitely hasnāt been the easiest road but time and persistence has been the key.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love a good hike (probably through Griffith)Ā I love a stroll through Huntington Gardens (probably bring a picnic and a crossword puzzle or two)
In pre covid times I love grabbing dinner or a drink and then catching a show at the Hi Hat or the Echo or the Bootleg…
I love a stroll through a museum (maybe LACMA or the Broad) then roam around downtown…grab some dinner…look through the last bookstore….
In the summer time I love packing a picnic and catching a performance of Shakespeare in the park over by the old zoo in Griffith…
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Iām super blessed with an ever supportive husband and family whoāve believed in me even when I didnāt believe in myself….and on the road to full self acceptance that has meant everything.
