Meet Emily Lopez | Singer, Actor, Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I live my life according to the whims of the great magnet so I should probably attribute every success I’ve ever had to risk. Every time you put yourself out there it’s a risk, every time you try something new and have a teeny whisper in your mind of “are people gonna get that?” It’s a risk .I have always a lot of faith in the things I don’t see, don’t know and don’t understand. More as time goes on and the risk reveal their strange rewards !!! With creative risks we have nothing to lose because imagination is infinite and nothing lasts forever

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I did my first play when I was 4, there was never really a question for me of what I wanted to do creatively. I just want to use my imagination and do whatever I want all the time so some days that looks like songwriting, which is not a super laborious process for me I just kind of channel things in the moment and then carve it out into something more specific. Some days it’s talking to everyone I see in a made up accent. Some days it’s acting out every role in All About Eve in a parking lot alone. I’m lucky that I have people who hire me for gigs because I live on mermaid island otherwise with no plans so thank GOD for people who call me to do stuff

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I drive a big scary looking 2 ton Chevy express so I would pick them up in style and go get a soup and salad at Barney’s Beanery where we would play the game I made up with my best friend which is: pick a random celebrity of the table and try to guess their sun moon and rising signs.. I’d drag them to Inglewood to see the show I’m in at the glorious Cinevita. A brand new handcrafted Spiegletent in Hollywood Park right across the lake from Sofi Stadium! It’s a show about a team of female secret agents called “Tarantino: Pulp Rock” .. produced by legendary LA company For the Record .. it’s basically a concert cabaret collage of Tarantino’s career and it’s stupid entertaining. I get to play Mia Wallace, perform a choreographed OD and frickin sword fight. Then after the show I’d take them to the holy ground that is the Frolic Room because you wanna go where everybody knows your name.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Escape Hotel Hollywood at 6633 Hollywood Blvd has been a huge source of my creative inspiration as well as a place where I was given free range to be the Hollywood ghost I know truly I am. This place needs a documentary yesterday. It has got to be the strangest job I’ve ever had in a very very long list of strange jobs. Very much a family in every sense. I worked here for 5 years and when they added the bar upstairs, Room Number 13, I did a 3 hour one woman karaoke cabaret every Friday and Saturday for over a year. That’s what we call diva bootcamp. Sometimes singing for a room full of people sometimes just singing for the ghosts of the 112 year old building. I love Escape Hotel Hollywood
