Meet Emily Morse | Muscian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Morse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, why did you pursue a creative career?
In my early adult years I had a very hard time expressing and processing my darkest emotions. Artistic expression was the only way that felt right. It felt innate. Words and sequence of melody was the only releiving action. It was my form of therapy. Fast forward to now. It still eases me but in other ways. I believe we are all artists for our own reasons. Those reasons fascinate me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets my art apart from others is that up until a few years ago I realized what others make has nothing to do with mine. Once we start comparing our art and expression we start wandering into a lane that in not our own. Art to me, is expression myself not some sort of competition or trying to be or not be. Just doing it and not thinking too hard could be the most challenging thing about it. Maybe its my own personal paradox where I say this is me take it for leave it! Yet I follow that with the thought ; but wait let me make it perfect and up to a certain standard of perfection worthy of being heard by others. Overcoming that perfectionism and fully letting go of control and fears has been some of my biggest lessons. One thing I suppose the world should know about me and my story is that if you strip some details and what have you we are all going through very similar human experiences. Acceptance of self. Letting go of what we no longer need to welcome in what aligns. Loving ourselves and loving others. We don’t always have to love every aspect of our careers but to understand there’s huge growth in ourselves as we progress in them professionally. Knowing and feeling that has been more rewarding that I had ever known was possible. When I first started a career is music I was just trying to look cool, party and hopefully make money.AKA fill a void of love I never had as a child. I didn’t realize in the span of then to now it became a spiritual journey of growth. Finding light in all my experiences of darkness. All very beautiful and continues to be so.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would ask what the general mood was. Day time hangs I’d definitely hit the arboretum or The Garfield Conservatory. For eating and drinking, patios of either Parsons or The Hi-Lo. The Music and street festivals are seasonal but like no other. There are always things to do, see and experience. Perfect for friends visiting. Just be ready and charged to be a good host!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give much of my thanks to my two older sisters. They are my entire family of support. They both are a concentrate of what a large family tree but I have in the support of two people. Our connection is so strong, spiritual and deep. My gratitude for their existence in my life is almost beyond words.
