We had the good fortune of connecting with Emmanuelle Blanche Rousselin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emmanuelle Blanche, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I landed in Los Angeles, I had no idea that I would end up opening a spa. It was while trying to get a massage that I realized that the Palper-Rouler massages I liked to receive back home didn’t exist here. It then seemed obvious to me; I had to take on this challenge!

I met Doris Martel, a French woman who founded Triphysical (Manual & Functional Therapy Program) and asked her to train me in Palper Rouler. This in turn allowed me to train my massage therapists and teach them this authentic French technique. I am fortunate to have created a team of loyal massage therapists, aligned with my values of well-being, which helped me to better understand the American clientele. Together, we were able to develop several protocols for the body and the face based on both Palper Rouler and manual lymphatic drainage, while respecting the individual goals of my clients.

All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support of my husband who believed in me since the beginning of this adventure,

I also met a wonderful association of women entrepreneurs, “Elles California”, where I found a community willing to listen, help and share useful advice.

What should our readers know about your business?
As you know by now, Emmanuelle Blanche is the very first massage therapy studio to bring the Palper Rouler technique to America and the only one who offers the signature combination of Palper Rouler with Lymphatic Drainage Massage.

The Palper Rouler technique originated in France. It is pronounced “Pal-Pay, Roo-lay” and is translated into English as “kneading and rolling”. The massage is done manually and is designed to break down the fat cells that form cellulite. Combined with lymphatic massage, it promotes the elimination of those dead cells by manually pumping the lymphatic system.
Emmanuelle Blanche has an holistic and non-invasive approach to getting rid of that orange peel skin and bumpy cellulite with a signature treatment fully manual, using natural oils imported from France, and easily tailored to focus on each client’s targeted areas, which in turn, generates fast and effective results.

As I said earlier, what brought me to seek a holistic and natural approach of well-being was the frantic life I had in Paris! I loved this period but I was clearly not taking care of myself enough. Somehow I managed to avoid health problems.
On the other hand, the professional experience I acquired during that time has given me all the skills I needed to start my own project, and I deeply enjoyed creating my own company from scratch. I am really proud, and pleasantly surprised in a way, to see that I am capable of being an entrepreneur!

I discovered some challenges along the way, first because I don’t like routine and also because things in general were quite different than back home. As far as routine, that was quite shaken when Covid hit! That period was and still is very trying. When the lock down began, we were getting ready to open a new location! I decided to listen to my motto: “Don’t worry, if it’s supposed to happen, it will.”

I am a very motivated and positive person and I was touched to see how my customers responded to the reopening! I couldn’t be more grateful.

What I take away from this adventure is that you have to stay true to your vision. This is what allowed me to always move forward even in times of doubt.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
What I love most about Los Angeles is the great outdoors! The nature! If I were to take a good friend out for a day, I would take her to Malibu for a long walk on the beach or to enjoy some paddle boarding in the ocean. Then we would go eat at Malibu Farm on the pier or at Fig Ranch Malibu (they make delicious pizzas).

We would hike to see the famous Hollywood sign up close as it’s a hallmark! We would definitely go to Palm Springs, to my favorite hotel Le Parker and eat at the Workshop Kitchen + Bar and hopefully that would fall during the Desert X Biennale. On the way back to LA, we would shop in Beverly Hills and on Abbot Kinney in Venice. Finally, I would take my friend to some of my favorite restaurants:

-Aburiya Raku, La Cienega blvd
-Bianca, Washington blvd, Culver City
-Madeo, Beverly Hills
-Cafe Mauro, Melrose ave
-Kiff Kafe, Pico blvd
-Gjelina, Abbot Kinney
-Rose Cafe, Rose ave

Although some have not reopened yet. Hopefully soon!
