We had the good fortune of connecting with Enrico Moses and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Enrico, why did you pursue a creative career?
In the middle of the pandemic, even though I found myself in quarantine with my family in Venice, it was like the perfect time for me to finally be able to create this idea that I had in my head for the past six years. So I ended up buying a canvas and started painting. And at that time I was using my iPad and was creating some digital work as well. So I created these two pieces, a Biggie piece and a Jay Z piece. And, you know, it took me a while but I got the courage to share it with my community… but once I got past my own BS, I got a really positive response.

I ended up selling those first pieces right away and I started making some more.

The whole concept and idea were to mix that feeling of having, you know, People in Hip Hop love wearing different chains and jewelry, and to be able to illustrate that, through my art on my canvases by using Swarovski crystals as the jewelry and the bling. So that idea kind of manifested through the first two pieces I created and things started moving. From that point, some of my collectors were really interested in buying a bunch of my pieces and I wanted to protect their investments. The value of these assets that they were acquiring from me. Now, I know people buy art, and they love to look at it. Another thing is the fact that art appreciates in value over time, and in many of my pieces, I create art digitally. So I was thinking about what would prevent somebody in the future from finding these digital files and printing them out and just really trying to easily replicate what I’m doing and maybe try to pass it off as my art. So I started thinking about how I could protect my collectors in their future art, and so I started researching and Googling, and I ended up stumbling on NFT’s. NFT stands for non-fungible tokens, but essentially this was the exact answer to the question that I had of how can I protect these digital assets and essentially create some type of digital scarcity.

So I started doing as much research as I could on “what does NFT’s mean?” and “what’s the potential of this new medium that’s built on top of the blockchain?”

I really dove in I fell into what you might call the rabbit hole and started learning a lot about NFT’s and spending a lot of time in different clubhouses and YouTubes and Spotify listening to podcasts. And from there I started minting my own NFT’s.

I ended up trying to find out where can I sell my NF T’s and I stumbled on CryptoVoxels.com, which is part of the metaverse. I just loved what it was, I loved the fact that you could purchase some land and really do whatever you want with it. Some digital land! So I decided, after not really being able to get into some of the galleries that were open, to purchase my own land, and from there I was like, Okay, what do I want to do with this space… I have my NFT’s, so I started putting some up and built out my first little gallery, and sold some NFT’s. That was really interesting just to be able to purchase some land put some NFts up, and then sell an NFT to someone just randomly online that I’ve never met. So that was my first entry into the sales portion in earning some Ethereum through that minting some more NFTs and selling more.

And then I started thinking about how am I going to really express myself as an artist… now that I have this digital land, I have my NFT’s and I’m creating digital art. You can see my collection of NFTs here: https://opensea.io/collection/art-by-enrico-moses-forever-4-my-collectors/

started to really dive deeper and I asked myself, “what am I trying to say?” So that’s when I came up with my first gallery show concept, which is called, “We Come From Chains”, and that shows is about, where we come from as Black Americans and what is the story that they’ve told here in America about us. You can see the 3D Virtual Art Show here: https://artbyenricomoses.com/pages/virtualartshow

The show is really about looking through my lens of a multiracial American growing up in the Midwest. For me to tell the story about my perspective of where we come from, and the fact that we’re valuable, and in the hip hop community, just how people have taken these chains and used them as part of our identity, and as a badge of honor. It’s really a big part of the whole Hip Hop community, whether it’s the East Coast, West Coast, Down South, or Midwest, you see the chains as a unifying part of the community. So I love how that really expresses it. You know what I’m trying to say as an artist, really the fact that the black community has a lot of, lot of value, the Hip Hop community has a lot of value, and there’s a lot of people who don’t get the respect that they deserve and understanding what they’re trying to do in actually putting out their art.

For me to be able to do that, it’s just such a big deal as an artist, and what I’m trying to say. So that’s really where the whole collection comes from. This is my first collection ever as an artist. My first debut collection in an art gallery show (even though it’s virtual) It’s been a fun journey into the crypto space and I have found some awesome people along the way and I’ve learned a lot, and I continue to learn every day. I’m excited to continue to teach more people about the power of NFT’s and crypto. I have a new show launching soon called “Muthaphuckkin Valuable Perspectives” which is all about interviewing amazing people to help my community grow and learn more about how to thrive and build value in our lives.

On Friday, April 8th I’m hosting an NFT art show with a bunch of dope artists about 11-12 artists coming up on April, 8, and just really excited to launch that!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is an expression of how I want people to feel, what I want them to think about, and my reflection on the world.

I realize that what I will leave behind is my art. This art isn’t about me the creator, it is a conversation that I’m having with my collectors and with the people who appreciate my art. My collectors and commentators become a part of this journey I’m on as an artist.

What I want my art to say is, believe in yourself!… Find the beauty in our world… Be the change you want to see!I

I say it’s a dialogue because I’m inspired by everything around me, including the conversations I have with my community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Venice Beach. I feel like you can spend months in this part of LA and experience so much dope stuff.

There are dozens of sports you can play for free:
Biking, skateboarding, surfing, walking, volleyball, paddle tennis, basketball, soccer, paddleball, baseball, softball, it goes on and on.

The restaurants are amazing, from high-end to dope little community-owned spots.

The nightlife is unique and has a ton of variety, The Lincoln, The Brigg, The Roosterfish, Hotel Erwin, Zinque, Scopa, Cabo Cantina, The Rose Room, Venice Ale House,… and there are a ton more.

The community in Venice is also amazing… the house parties are some of the best in the world. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a big shoutout to my business partner and creative collaborator, Douglas Emerson.

For the past 2 years with Douglas Emerson, we have been creating our company called Cabana, which is also a big move into the content and metaverse space, and it’s really exciting to be able to integrate just what’s happening on the blockchain, what’s happening in crypto, and to be able to merge that with content space. The content space has been changing so quickly over the last 10-15 years we are SUPER energized to bring our shows to the world through this emerging technology.
