We had the good fortune of connecting with Enrique Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Enrique, how do you think about risk?
I was very comfortable with my life in Madrid, Spain back in 2022. I was 24 years old, had a pretty good job with very promising projections, had my family, friends and a healthy life balance but quite simply, something was missing. I was living the life I thought I was supposed to live, not the life I was meant to live. So, I took the risk to drop it all, pack my bags and move to Los Angeles to pursue acting. The first months here were rough, because I had never acted before, wasn’t sure how to make money and often doubted whether it was worth it or not. Now, a year and a half later, I can say this was perhaps the best move I could have ever made. I’ve learned an incredible amount that I would’ve never learned had I not taken this risk, and enriched my life by so much just because I am finally listening to my inner voice and doing what I truly want to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After growing up in Indonesia and then living in Spain for 6 years, I moved to Los Angeles to become an actor at the start of 2023. From that point onwards, I’ve acted in over 20 independent short films, playing a range of characters, primarily taking on the role of the young troubled male with a complex inner world. While I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn, I’d say that my multicultural background is something that sets me apart as an artist. Being half Indonesian and half Spanish, I always try to bring a new perspective when interpreting a character, adding depth and layers to my character’s unspoken reality without straying away from the director’s intentions. While I’ve only acted in English, I hope to someday act in Indonesian and Spanish too – or perhaps even take on a role where I’d speak all three, that would be cool!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends from back home came to visit me here in LA, I’d have to take them to an NBA game to watch either the Lakers or the Clippers play because that’s always a good time. I’d also be sure to take them to Porto’s Bakery for a sandwich that keeps you quiet over a meal and some pastries that have you not wanting to look at yourself in the mirror after having 5. If the weather is good, we’ve got to hit up the beach too, that is a must.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
