We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Schulman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorites comes from Nelson Mandela. He said “there is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Those of us who gravitate towards the entertainment industry tend to be dreamers. The competition is brutal, even on the business side, but at least personally speaking, there’s nothing else I’d rather do for a living.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I wouldn’t call it easy, but I think a major key to success in entertainment is trying to stay relatively even keeled no matter what is going on around you. The highs can be very high and the lows very low, but if you stay focused and know your worth the right opportunity will eventually present itself. It always helps to place an emphasis on building great relationships around you. Make friends on a similar journey to yours who can give you solace and support when times are rough and who you can celebrate with when things are great.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big sports guy so depending on the time of year, probably either a Lakers, Dodgers, LAFC, Kings or Rams game. Lately I’ve been really into going to the LAFC games, they have a really incredible fan community that creates an awesome communal experience.
Of course I’d also want to show them some of my favorite restaurants around the city, Dan Sung Sa for KBBQ, Prince Street Pizza, and El Carmen on 3rd street for Mexican food. In terms of bars, Davey Waynes is a must to bring any tourist and being in Hollywood, you can bar hop to Madam Siam and No Vacancy super easily. I’m also a fan of Bathtub Gin in Weho which is a cool little speakeasy that’s hidden from the public eye!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My companies founding partners Erwin and Brian, as well as Brad Hall who is the CEO of Entertainmentcareers.net. All 3 have been consistent sources of excellent advice for me throughout my journey, and have been incredibly giving with both their time and their relationships.
