We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Abell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Community involvement. We are very mom & pop and have a personal approach to what we do. We are not just a faceless company. AT our core we are just a waiter, bartender & chef whom ventured out and took control of our own narrative.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We feel like we beat to our own drum. Trying to make everyone that walks in part of the crew. As the Broken Compass team we love that we see the same faces over and over again. It makes what we do worth it! It was a lot of hard work and exhausted days/nights that got us here. It definitely was a bumpy ride. We would love the world to know that we are not just a restaurant/bar, we are humans, we all have feelings & we all are working as hard as we can to make our guest experience the best possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Smokehouse in Burbank, Cd Trader in Tarzana, Hanks Bagels in Burbank, Tiki Ti in Hollywood, Magic Castle in Hollywood, Ven Tiki in Ventura, Tonga Hut in North Hollywood Palms Coffee Bar in Burbank. In all honesty the business has taken over most of our lives and it is hard to have a week of adventures.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would love to shoutout to our all of friends & family for the support and understanding of what it toke & takes to open up a restaurant.
