We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Gatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erica, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Phoenix, AZ. I was raised by my mom. We were financially embarrassed (as people in my family would say) at times not knowing where our next meal would come from. My mom wasn’t able to give me a proper birthday party, so she decided to have a sleep over for me. She put a towel down on the kitchen floor dumped all her makeup on it and brought out her dresser vanity mirror and said have fun doing makeovers on each other. It was one of the best birthday parties I ever had. That is when I knew I fell in love with the beauty world and that I have a creative mind.
After my mom married my step dad, they were extremely strict. I became very rebellious; therefore, I was grounded, which felt like all the time. Being the oldest child, It forced me to to keep myself busy and to spend time with my mom and 6 sisters (his, her, theirs, ours; in different homes) I needed an outlet to express my artistic side and to make time pass. I would do facials, popping zits, makeup, hair, nails, dress them up and take photos. Even when they didn’t want it, I would track them down and force them to let me do it. After a while I became aware that I was like their therapist. I would listen and help solve their problems and get over their insecurities by talking to them, and show them that they are beautiful inside and out.
When I entered high school I realized I had a gift and passion for the beauty industry and making people feel beautiful inside and out and feeling good about themselves. It made me happy to see I had a huge in pact on there self-esteem and making the right choices.
When I was 23 years old I was ready to put all of my practice to use and moved to California. I worked 3 jobs to support myself. I prayed everyday that God would help me achieve my goals and dreams. I was at the right time and place where I met a talented celebrity makeup artist. I became her right hand lady, doing makeup for editorials covers. While doing makeup I knew that I wanted to know more about skin. I put myself through esthetician school. Right after school I worked with an amazing celebrity esthetician. That is where I knew that skincare was my passion; helping people achieve their skincare goals. A couple years later I took a risk and started working freelance for myself in the Southbay manhattan, hermosa, redondo Beach.
With all the hard work and everything I went through I’m so happy I never gave up. Not only is this my career that allows me to support myself financially, but it’s a self fulfilling job…. my dream job.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

Having great skin doesn’t stop at treatments one has to have the proper skin care products and be diligent about using them.. I love seeing my clients faces and responses after each treatment!
It was not easy to get to where I am. I moved from AZ to California when I was 23 I had no financial help and worked 3 jobs to pay my bills and put me through school. I worked for a celebrity makeup artist who convinced me to move in with her and help her with her new born baby. In return she would help me be successful in my makeup career.. After 4 months of pretty much being her live in nanny I found out, instead of using me to assist her for jobs she was using someone else and having me stay home and watch her child for free. I was upset of course, but it made me realize that I am The only one that is in charge of my success, it’s not going to just come to me I’m going to have to work hard for it.
After working with her I realized I wanted to try skincare out and worked for a celebrity esthetician (note I was also working 2 other serving jobs) I learned a lot from her and enjoyed it but I was over working so many jobs I wanted to dive into only working in the beauty. So with support of boyfriend at the time now husband he encouraged me to quit my job and start working in manhattan beach where I worked at hush hair salon the owner Rick gave me a fresh start so I can build my clientele.I’m so thankful for him because i met amazing hair stylist and they all have spread the word about me which
Helped me build my strong clientele.
There were times where I wondered if it was worth it, but then I would pray about it and talk to my friend Ericka and grandmas and they encouraged me to keep going and not to give up. I’m so thankful I didn’t give up because I love what I do! I love making people feel beautiful inside and out and helping them know their worth.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
