We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin and Eric Ward and Stogsdill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin and Eric, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think there’s a combination of factors behind our success. Our coffee is seasonally sourced and we roast on the lighter side. It’s great coffee. Our approach to coffee is to make it approachable. Our approach to customer service is to be welcoming. This combination gives customers a good feeling. So you have a great cup of coffee and an enjoyable in-store experience. That’s what makes the Alana’s brand work.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Eric Stogsdill has been roasting and selling beans for over 10 years. He started roasting in the garage of his apartment building and building a reputation for great coffee at Farmers’ Markets across Los Angeles and the South Bay. Eric and Erin met through friends and started talking about opening a storefront. It was a three year journey from idea to open. Finding the right location, going through Building and Safety and the Health Department to get permits and the headaches of turning a take-out location to a dine-in cafe. The lessons we learned are keep moving forward and stay true to who you are. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Mar Vista! Our success owes a debt the our neighborhood. The locals have embraced our coffee shop and made it the local “Cheers”.
