Meet Eugene Bennett | Filmmaker & Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eugene Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eugene, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that taking risks are necessary for growth. Thinking back on things early in my career, I can admit that I played it safe in a lot of ways. It wasn’t until I stepped out of my comfort zone and took risks that I started to see progression, change, and growth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as a photographer. That translates greatly into my cinematography. I believe it’s what I’m mostly known for when it comes to the film space. Creating my own look took years of work and trial and error, but ultimately it has paid off. I think it’s important to keep an eye on trends, but not to chase them. Incorporate them where they make sense into your craft and make them work for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As someone that loves to eat, I prefer a nice home cooked breakfast, but my favorite lunch spot is a Sushi/Fusion restaurant called Eez Fusion in Birkdale Village, Huntersville. For dinner I’d say La Fiesta, cantina for authentic tacos & margaritas. As far as entertainment goes, this is Charlotte so there’s so much to do. I’m personally not a nightlife person (anymore) but I do enjoy catching shows at The Comedy Zone, as well as different events that take place at The Spectrum Center, and Bojangles Coliseum.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out “The Art of Documentary” filmmaking course headed by Mark Bone, and Michael Delmonte. This course not only helps thousands of aspiring filmmakers world wide, but it helped me put together the tools to sell out my first theater screening in 2023. I’m a believer that you should keep learning no matter what experience level.
