We had the good fortune of connecting with EV Cassidy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi EV, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I’ve often heard that the real definition of failure is quitting. Why quit when you can pivot? Why give up when you can adapt to changing circumstances? We always set out with a heart full of drive and passion. Along the way, feelings of regret, exhaustion, depression, self-doubt, you name it, can easily make you want to throw your hands in the air and walk. No one tells you to expect it, no one tells you that it’s completely normal.
While giving up is out of the question, being adaptive is not only a key strategy, it’s a necessary one. LEARN from your opportunities. Don’t scrap what you have, just pivot the destination till it aligns with what’s in demand.
Success is the journey, not the goal line.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Cut by Cake, my third company, has been the most difficult yet most rewarding line I’ve created. Our sister company, CAKE, was est. in 2015 and has been a Los Angeles staple in the Designer Sugar category ever since. As a lover of all things fitness, health & wellness, it was always a struggle for me to enjoy our menu while trying to religiously follow macros and build/cut phases in my nutrition programs. It was clear I needed to create the best of both worlds. Something that was as delicious as CAKE but something that was as guilt free as I desperately needed it to be. Cut to two years of R&D later (pun intended) and Cut by Cake was on store shelves! Creating a product like ours (an honest product that didn’t cut corners) was an expensive and difficult feat. Throw in a very jealous x boyfriend/business partner and you would’ve thought I’d be finished before I could ever get through year 1. Now, our line of Protein Packed, Gluten Free and Low Sugar treats (starting with our doughnuts) has been getting 5 star reviews from all over Southern California. We’ve been lucky enough to partner with celebrities like Khloe & Kourtney Kardashian and brands like alo yoga. We’re just getting started.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being born and raised in this incredible city of opportunity you’d think I’d know the land like the back of my hand. In realty, I’ve spent the majority of my life behind my work but I’ve picked up a few gems throughout the city along the way. For eats, Laurel Hardware has been around forever for a REASON. Also, Ka’teen, Hollywood’s own little Tulum. Scopa & Dama for the squash blossoms and everything in between. Motherwolf, absolutely incredible. Drinks (and yes I’m a snob because of my 2nd company, Bar Angels), Waldorf Astoria Rooftop cause VIEWS for days. Also necessary to grab a craft cocktail or 3 from Catch (it’s sceney but their Detox Retox is out of this world). A random hidden gem is Dory Deli in Newport. They’re right on the beach and will SHOCK you with amazing cocktails. To hangout, throw on your bikini cause we’re going to the beach, Manhattan that is. If it’s cold, we’re cozying up at Hotel Bel Air by the fire. The piano player, the dim light, it couldn’t be more charming.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my Pastry Chef Chenin Kei, my right hand and even left one on some days. I wouldn’t choose anyone else to build this company with. You’ve stuck by my side through the roughest year of my life and believed in me when I couldn’t. I’ll forever be grateful for your loyalty and laughs (and insanely fast hands). Also my mama AND my Coordinator, Tess. No one in this world dedicates themselves to me and my companies like you. Thank you for always being there for me no matter the task or the time and thank you for always having my back, there’s no way I could put a value on that.
