Meet Eva Acosta | Cake Designer & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Acosta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business name is La Casa Dulce, which means “The Sweet House”, it just sounds and makes more sense in Spanish, which represents my cultural background. I wanted a business that represented comfort, sweet, love, quality taste, and that is everything you could find in a home. My sweet treats, bakes and cakes come from quality family recipes made with love, and that is what I hope everyone feels with every bite they take.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always loved baking, but I never really considered to be creative or artistic. It’s something that you just learn along the way. What ignites my passion for creating a cake is visualzing my customer celebrating a special moment with my creation (cake). I’ve always loved celebrating special moments in life, and being able to be part of many people’s celebrations across communities in form of a cake brings be satisfaction. Knowing that my customers not only have something pretty, fancy and lux to take a picture with, but have the to taste it as well.
Patience, late nights, commitment, investment and getting out of my comfort zone have led me where I am now professionally. Learning from mistakes I’ve made in the past, not giving up just because something did not go as planned. Spending time learning more on ways to improve, researching, and continuous practice. I recently invested in a summer course in New York, where I spent a lot of time learning new techniques. Every industry is always evolving, and in order to strive, we must always choose to learn and develop along.
Starting your own business is like most memes say, you have to learn more than just the craft itself, You have to learn how to market yourself (sales), speak your brand and ideas to strangers, become a great photographer, and balance everything in your life. But this is also an opportunity to get to know yourself deeper and challenge yourself to improve in the areas where you lack skills. It hasn’t been easy but that’s where the commitment falls in.
What I really want people to know about my brand is it’s not just a product that I want to sell. It’s the emotion of tasting something fulfilling while celebrating that important milestone in their life. I want to be part of uplifting and supporting one another, celebrating one another through my creation of a cake.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend of mine was visiting the area I would definitely take them for a hike in Palos Verdes, a beach walk, and rooftop in Downtown LA.
I love days when I wake up for a early morning hike on Pacific Coast Highway, you get a good workout with amazing views of the ocean. Then I like to go for coffee and a delicious breakfast at Yellowvase Cafe. The place is really cute itself, and all the yellow around genuinely makes me feel happy.
Grabbing some pizza from Southbay Pizza and sitting along the beach, hearing the waves crashing, watching the sunset is a perfect way to unwind, reflect, and relax. And then walking along the beach, occasionally wetting your feet to burn off the pizza.
Lastly, Perch is one of my favorite restaurants, The place is cozy, with great food, drinks, and a view of the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother carried showed me how to bake, and as a child is when the passion began. I loved memorizing her recipes and then substituting and/ or altering some ingredients. Then my husband is the one who supports me continuously in creating a brand and business of my own. So I’d like to thank both of them.
