Meet Eva Bergeret | Clothing Designer and Brand Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva Bergeret and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eva, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2022, I started sewing for fun, making little things out of table cloth or curtains like tote bags and tops. I slowly discovered a passion for it; bringing an idea from your head to your body felt magical. I naturally leaned towards fun and french inspired patterns like stripes, polka dots and gingham. When it came to my first collection, I thought about which types of clothes made sense to me and that’s when I realized I struggled finding affordable clothing that blended comfort and style.
I was born and raised in France where ones look often overshadows comfort. Moving to the US, I noticed the opposite. I naturally began imagining pieces that you could dress up or dress down, sleep in or wear to work or dinner. Pieces that will make you feel sexy but not uncomfortable.

What should our readers know about your business?
Creating clothes and owning a brand was never in my stars. I never thought I’d be here one day; I have always worked within a creative field but I never thought I’d be able to make an actual garment, let alone make a living out of it!
I had this life long idea that If I had a job it had to be something I was taught to be taken seriously. When I started becoming a more established brand and people started buying from me, I had this unshakable imposter syndrome, thinking : “Who am I to think I can just make something and sell them, pretending to be a designer”.
To be honest, that feeling is still with me today, but I’ve learned along the way, that there are multiple ways to be a designer and I could create my own. A path in which my clientele would be different from the big label’s and away from the fashion week ideals. It was ok to be a self taught sewer that creates basics for everyday use, making cute clothes that made people happy.
I think owning a business can be very lonely, hard and endless. But it is also so fulfilling, interesting and unique. I feel grateful I am able to do what I do even though there are definitely huge moments of doubt and desires to quit, it’s funny how every time I start thinking of a different life, I get new ideas, and it feels as joyful as when I began. I remind myself to take things little by little, and to not forget how to have fun, to accept the high and lows and accept some failures for some successes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Even though I am still discovering the city myself after 5 years, there are some treasured spots I would love for my best friend to experience!
I would definitely take them on several hikes around the city to see LA from such different sides. The same goes for a drive in Laurel Canyon or along Muholland Drive to look at the old houses and take in the view; I find it all so mesmerizing!
Lunch spots would include Loupiotte in Los Feliz and Canter’s Deli in West Hollywood. For dinner, I’ve recently discovered Zizou that I’m obsessed with, and of course The Smokehouse in Burbank. It has such an old Hollywood vibe and the food is just right (so are the martinis!) And if we were out by the beach in Malibu for a dip, Duke’s is a must go.
Lastly, for a little drink, I really like Good House Keeping in Highland Park or The Red Lion Tavern in Silverlake for their nice vibes and for not trying to be something more than a great bar.
For a couple of days, I’d want to show them outside of LA as well, either Ojai for the trees and beautiful drive or Palm Springs for the magical desert.
Additionally, some of LA’s incredible museums like LACMA or Griffith Observatory and even some more touristy spots like Warner Brothers Studio or Universal, because, how could you not?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people to thank. I started my journey selling at pop up events and flea markets. From day one I was able to be part of a community of entrepreneurs that brought support and encouragement to one another. My biggest Shoutout would be to Britta’s Shop By B. She is another amazing brand owner and designer from L.A that was the first one to give me the push towards what I do. She had started her business before mine and was a constant support, sharing things she’d learned herself like sewing, tools she used, and places she shopped. To this day we help each other with our brands and even collaborate!
Then all the people I met along the way: Bintobody, the best taste in second hand; LUE Studios who makes the cutest reworked pieces; By Orly that creates the most delicate jewelry. All form a wonderful community.
