We had the good fortune of connecting with Evelyn Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evelyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I began my business during the pandemic in 2021. At the time I was unemployed, and my bills were accruing. I attempted to resell new/used clothes although it was not enough. I was then encouraged by my boyfriend to sell flowers as I have always been drawn to flowers and had previously taken a free floral course. It was the best decision I have ever made.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love being able to use my imagination to create new designs. From designing a Mickey Mouse funeral wreath to a baseball, it takes imagination and an artistic eye to achieve. I am proud of the growth of my business and to have people believe in me. It was far from easy; I definitely have faced many challenges, although it has all been a learning experience. Along the way, I have learned to not give up, believe in my abilities and to learn from previous experiences. I want others to know that I give it my all to whatever design I create. Customer satisfaction and giving smiles is my top priority.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take my friend to Little Tokyo and to local SELA businesses. Little Tokyo has the best ramen! Mr. Ramen is my favorite! Border X in the city of Bell is an amazing local brewery to hang out, have drinks and for live entertainment. Bellflower Diner in Bellflower has a very homey environment with delicious food! Other places to hang out are the Long Beach Pike, Point Fermin and Dockweiler beach to see the airplanes flying above you.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to recognize my floral instructor, Mireya! She also encouraged me to start my business page and provided me with tools and skill set to become a florist. Shoutout as well to my family for the nonstop encouragement and support during pop-ups and events. More importantly, thank you to each person who has taken the time to admire my work, purchased flowers or has said my name in a room of opportunity. Because of your support, love and encouragement, my business continues to thrive.
