We had the good fortune of connecting with Evey Solorio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evey, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In the field of makeup artististry you are your own boss, therefor if I decide to sleep in, not push myself to work/find work I won’t have any source of income. This is one of the risks you take when becoming your own boss, there isn’t a time sheet or clock in button like most jobs. For so many years I was afraid pursuing makeup full time because of the fear of not having stability or job security. Even know is this pandemic is has become ever scarier but seeing so many other artist thrive like myself in this time has proved that no matter circumstances anything is possibly if you push you self and really want it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is definitely my style. Most artist like to stick to cookie cutter makeup because it’s safe and beautiful, but I’ve always liked to push boundaries and challenge myself to create something new and different. I want the world to know that conventional beauty is over, that makeup is a form of self expression not something to “fix” your flaws like we were told growing up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our day would start with an early breakfast and a hike that overlooked the city! Then I would drag them to the santee ally in downtown la, I’ve been to dtla hundreds of times and I never get over walking around and exploring the food, clothing, culture. After that we’d definitely do lunch, Mexican food Forsure because how can you come to la and not have Mexican food in East la. From there we can grab some boba and maybe just walk around the city to just soak in the night life. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my family and most of all my mom. These are the people who always pushed me to pursue makeup full time and have been by side through the good and bad times during the process! My mom always reminded me that i can have whatever I want in my life and that I am capable of being financially independent in my makeup career. She was my biggest cheerleader and supporter.
