We had the good fortune of connecting with Fabian Jaime and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fabian, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
We must take risks to get what we want. Sometimes, when we take risks we may lose some things, but at least we know the outcome instead of wondering what it could have been like.
In 2018 I had missed some great acting opportunities due to scheduling conflicts with my day job. I had been offered a role in a low budget film that required a few weeks of commitment. I couldn’t just ask for two weeks off and risk getting terminated because the job was my bread and butter, but I also didn’t want to lose the opportunity of the role in this cool film. So after thinking about it for a few days, I decided to quit my job and said yes to the role. I was risking it all because I wouldn’t have a job at the restaurant after the filming of the movie was done.
Since then, I have only relied on acting and modeling work to survive and have not looked back since. I made the decision to take a leap of faith and do whatever it takes to make money solely off entertainment work. The film we shot has not been finished, and it may never be completed, but I loved every second of it and I am glad I quit my day job for it. This decision has changed my life for the best.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have come to learn that it is all about the journey. You make your reality and whatever comes your way can be good or bad depending on how you view it. I choose to take the good out of every situation and focus on that to make the journey a good one. I may not be an A list actor yet, but I have enjoyed every moment of working as an actor. Whether it is for a low budget short film, or a National Car Commercial, I am happy that I get to work in this industry and be able to call myself a working actor.
It definitely was not so easy to be where I am today. I have been in Los Angeles for almost ten years and I am definitely still learning. I have done it all to survive to try and make sure I do not leave LA. From having to live in my truck and showering at the gym for a few months to be able to pay off my SAG joining fees, to waiting tables, and donating sperm in Pasadena to pay the expensive rent. All while trying to book acting work. And the hard work is just starting to pay off. I am a Taurus and I am very stubborn. So I will definitely stick it out until the end. My wife loves that about me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting LA, after picking them up from the airport, I would take them to Venice beach boardwalk for a little walk and to have lunch at the Cabo Cantina on Washington by the beach. We would catch their 2 for 1 happy hour. But I am sober now so I would be the DD lol. Then, we would cruise on over to Melrose so they could check out the stores there. I would take them to Runyon canyon since I live across the street so that they can sober up hiking on the trail. If they were up for it, we would go to LA Fitness for a good work out. For dinner, we would go to Shake Shack. If they are vegan, perhaps Sugar Taco. I would love to show them the Arts District in Downtown LA. It is so hip there. For breakfast the next day, my wife and I would take them to Cheebo on Sunset Boulevard because they only use the best organic ingredients. After that, we would go to Malibu beach and get some fun in the sun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has always supported me and has always encouraged me to follow my dreams since I could remember. I have solid friends here in LA that I met when I first got out here that have been a great support system. We have supported each other since day one. I have made some great friends that are in the business and they too push me to be a better me. My brand new wife Bria Anne Jaime has been my support since I have met her and is always reminding me that I am a star.
