We had the good fortune of connecting with Farina Rowland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Farina, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My free/chill time always has been very important for me and I try to never say NO to a get together with friends/family. BUT I think if you love what you‘re doing and you have Goals you want to reach, you won’t really feel tired or exhausted and that leaves you with more energy to actually do things even after a long work Day. I write down my long and short term goals and time block as much as I can. That allows me to stay focused on the things that I want but also visualizes how much time I spent working and when it’s Time to take a break!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I moved from Germany to California about 3 years ago and it took me quite some time to connect myself as a professional Horse Trainer/ Sales Person. In the Horsebuisness it’s all about who knows you and who do you trust. As a new Person it can be quite though to get your hands on better horses, especially if you can afford 6 figures to buy your own top level Horse. It takes hard work! A lot of dedication! Focus! And also some talent. I really can tell how all of it is slowly coming into place. People start recognizing me, trusting me and sending me Horses.
Aside of showing some stamina you also have to take some Risks. To Buy and Sale Horses brings a lot of Risk. Other than a Car or other materials your Horse can make 1 wrong step and get Hurt. Buying talented & healthy Horses is absolute key and pairing the right Rider and Horse Combinations keep your clients Happy and creates a good Image!
Late 2018 I got a bit into modeling as well. It’s a great contrast to being sweaty and dirty all Day around the Horses! The more artistic the Pictures turn out the better and I have an incredible support system around me with amazing Photographers that know how to bring their visions alive! I‘m currently working on how to bring my Passion for horsey photography and art closer to everybody. I feel like there is auch Beauty and unused possibility in the Horse/ Art World and I would love to explore that angle a lot more!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is easy for me to answer because I have been in this situation lots of times! My first go to spot for sure is the Griffith observatory by night! Coming from a small town like me it’s quite overwhelming to stand there and ALL you see is city lights. I never get tired of that! Despite the obvious tourist spots like walk of fame or Santa Monica Pier I love taking people up mullholand and along pch while the sun sets. It’s like you’re in the middle of nowhere and you turn and all the sudden you see the Beach on the Horizon. That is something truly magical!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think the list of people that I have to thank for my success is too long. I believe every Person comes into your life for a Reason and if you’re good to them, they’re good to you. I was lucky enough to learn that very early in my life. It’s a two way street and I‘m very thankful for each and everybody I surround myself with.!. It takes a Village!
