We had the good fortune of connecting with Felicia Katsson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Felicia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
So, I am trying to learn to have a work life balance because at this current moment I didnt know how to. I try to accomplish so much it gets a bit overwhelming. As i am working a full-time job still as well as doing my show I was having a hard time trying to balance both.
Before I had so much free time and feeling like In The Music had my full attention now its like i have side dude and now im giving something else my time so im not at my best. Recently i took a month off doing my show because i reconized i needed to hit a reset button as well to get my creative juices back flowing.
Now with the time i recently took off i created some time and made schedule to dedicate time for myself, the show and work so hopefully moving forward I will have that balance.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others honestly my personality like Felicia Katsson is a whole vibe im really like the homegirl/cousin that’s gone turn up the function. It just me being my fun goofy self like you know at any given moment you know i break out dancing or rapping but you also know i have my serious moments when i mean business. In sales we used to say “People buy from people” meaning BE you people dont like all that sales type finess you just be authentic. As Long as i continue to be myself people gone love me and remember me for ME. Also, I am a selfless person as I creative things for myself i come up idea for my circle of friends i be like you should do this. If idea dont fit for me i will pass along make sure someone can execute this idea. Like the whole team gotta win so its really #GWINNING
I am proud of ME sometimes we don’t say it enough so I am proud that I seeing the impact that I am starting to have. Seeing the growth of the show has been so fulfilling. In The Music has been an idea in my head for the past 4-5 years and now it’s been a year since I’ve been doing the show I am blown by how much I have grown. Being that this been a thought and seeing it now I sometimes think like why the heck it took me hella long to do this. It made me realized it’s really just a mind thing and when you shift your mindset and really go after things that you want you will be good. I need credit the pandemic as well because being stuck in the house forced me to wanna do better. So looking at where i am today Im extremely happy I increase my skill set week after week. I have invested into my craft with new equipment learning new programs like im getting up there soon with production level. It taking some time but Ima sit there and learn, as I am continue to learn I will continue to get better professionally.
I would say it not easy its some long nights okay but it pushes me because i hit a lot of learning curves and finding out how to navigate new things. Like once i wanna learn or do something ima figure out away. I remember trying to figure out the whole virtual world i watch so man youtube video on how to edit adding in pictures in videos etc. Once i learned i be like that was easy.
Over this year i learned patience and honestly staying in my lane. Meaning being in a world where its so many content creators and trying to stay innovated you can get clouded with feeling like you are not good enough. I just went through that this past month. I lost myself i didn’t know if this something that i should be doing because im comparing myself to so many others. My mentor told me the #1 thing I should never do, you can be inspired but do not compare.
I want the world to know about Felicia Katsson, I am one band show when it comes to filming, editing and production side of it. All the graphics you see is me I did that. I wasnt people to understand you can do WHATEVER u put your mind to , Like Sheree Whitfield said “Who gone check you boo ” (I think it was here lols ) Do you and get done no matter what even Spring/Summer collection comes out in Setember. Felicia Katsson wants be a house whole name and really be staple in music industry as media personality and I will be remeber the name.
Lastly Remember check out a New Episode of In The Music, Every Tuesday at Feliciakatsson.com 🙂 and Make sure yall Tell a friend to tell a friend too 🙂
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So the thing is I been here since the pandemic started so I haven’t even been able to explore LA myself so I will need somebody to show me around. Any Takers? lols Now if we are in Atlanta my second home then I got something for us to do every single day of the week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I will like to shout out all of the viewers that watch In The Music every week without them it wouldn’t be a show. Like Its people in Africa to London to the Dominican Republic which is actually a hot spot. They be feeling my lil Oakland vibe & dance moves (lols). Next, I will like to shout out to the amazing publicist that I have been able to work with Bianca Rugimbana and Delisha Ledford these two ladies have helped move the show and seen my vision. They assist by getting some amazing guests on the show. When I can both of them to LA or Atlanta i owe the a night out … Coming soon Ladies.
One thing I did was Invest in my craft as my coach will say, Terry Griffen, I joined and mentoring group for entrepreneurs called The Collective. When I first joined I wanted to learn how to grow my brand because i didn’t know to much about Social Media and how to market myself. I knew how to post and get likes but it way more beyond that. Being in this class has helped me direct my thinking beyond on a surface level. Terry has to help me improve my social media presence and really make me look at the “WHY” of a lot of things. I really suggest people join this mentoring group because a lot of the things you are thinking or feeling is someone in that class that feels or thinking the same thing as you. Everyone in my class has motivated me. When you surround yourself with people that have common goal, It makes you wanna thrive. so yeah come get with ” The Collective” family 🙂 join today because you wont regret it @iamterrygriifen tell him Felicia sent you lol
Also, I cannot forget about my family and Friends you know they riding for me mocking my little “You feel me” you know i say that 100x a episode. but I also want to give a shout out to my POWER group. So My POWER group was set up so we can debate #TeamGhost or #TeamTasha but we trancedent to all conversation for us to grow. John Cooper has been so instrumental to my show he has help me format the show and the topics. Like In The Music really stems and motivated from our debates. I think of all of them as like producer of the show because i run almost all my topic of show. I call them to go over interview question, They send me new artist to check out, if i need a quick pep talk they are always there. Sometime I hate to hear criticism but, they gone tell me exactly what i need to hear. Like ima be in my feeling for a minute but i know they are coming from a loving place so yea shout out to John Cooper, Klye Davis, Keandra Donnelly and Davon Mays. Also make sure yall check out the Boxingsection with Kyle so all you boxing fans check him out.
So yes I have a collective of people I can credit because everyone contriube to my success. I thank everybody I know it some people I’m missing don’t be mad at me 🙂
