We had the good fortune of connecting with Fiona Skye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fiona, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has been a key factor in shaping my career as a wardrobe stylist. What’s beautiful about risk-taking is that it entails putting yourself out there with everything to gain and nothing to lose. This willingness to embrace risk sets one apart from those who fear rejection.

Funny enough, my entry into styling is a perfect example of this principle in action. I was a junior in college at the University of Miami when COVID hit. I relocated to LA, hoping to secure a fashion internship while still studying remotely. With just three weeks remaining before having to head back to NY and still no job prospects, I found myself sitting at a restaurant with my dad when I noticed two familiar faces from TikTok sitting at a nearby table. I decided to write my name and number on a piece of paper and went up to them introducing myself as a wardrobe stylist and expressing interest in collaborating with them (despite having never dressed a man in my entire life).

As luck would have it, they were actually in the process of finding a stylist and were impressed by my initiative. Two days later, I found myself being interviewed for the position, which not only allowed me to remain in LA but also kickstarted my career in fashion. I began with zero experience and was unsure of what laid ahead, but thanks to the support and belief of that team, I was able to begin what I had always dreamt of. Today, those initial contacts have evolved into close friends and I could not be more grateful for that team for kick starting my career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work spans everything from red carpets to street-style, TV shows, weddings, and editorial shoots. The past 2.5 years have been quite a ride, filled with hard work and unforgettable experiences.

I view styling as a form of expression and a type of art, being able to use that creativity on my clients is such a dream. I love pushing my clients out of their comfort zone and steering them away from something they would typically wear. It always surprises them and they end up loving the risk! A fun example of this is when I dressed my client Josh Richards for the Golden Globes in 2023. I cut his shirt to make it a cropped top. He trusted me and my vision and it was so fun and got so many positive responses.

Styling is extremely long hours on set interning and assisting, countless 4am wake up calls and 16 hour long days, lots of tears and LOTS of miles on my car.

On the other hand, it’s also been incredibly thrilling. I’ve had the chance to work alongside some of my idols, play with clothes from brands I have always dreamt of just seeing in real life, meeting amazing people, attending fashion shows. The excitement never ends!

On those tough, long days, I remind myself that there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. Every job demands hard work, and if I want to achieve my goals, I know it won’t be easy. I feel incredibly fortunate to be pursuing something I am so passionate about.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love LA so much because there are so many fun things to do!!! If my best friend was visiting, we would go hiking in Malibu (bonus points if it’s spring because the flowers are stunning)!!

We would get coffee at a new spot everyday because that is the best part of the day (duh). Some of my fav coffee shops are Maru Coffee, Kings Road Cafe, Arabica and Stereoscope Coffee.

For breakfast we’d head to the West side to Ggiata (best food and pastries ever)! Maybe go walk down Abbot Kinney and window shop. They have the cutest boutiques!

I love driving around and looking at houses so from there we’d have to head to the Palisades and window house shop (is window house shopping the right term? lol). The bluffs are so beautiful. There happens to be an Erewhon in town so we’ll head there and sadly spend too much money but I promise the hot bar IS worth it. End the night at my favorite restaurant in the world, Craig’s, which happens to be where I met my first client and then got my first internship! That place is good luck, everyone run to Craig’s!

Head home for a game night and a good movie!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this question!!! I owe the BIGGEST thank you to my family and friends!!!

Building my business wouldn’t have been possible without my parents’ unwavering support. At the beginning, they weren’t quite sure about the ins and outs of what I was diving into. Despite that, they believed in me, trusted me and showed me patience every step of the way (and continue to do so).

Beyond my parents, my siblings, my boyfriend and close friends have been my anchor. They’ve kept me grounded during the highs and celebrated every success with me. They’ve also been there through the tough times, always offering support and encouragement.

I have also made some amazing styling connections along the way that have gotten my through! While assisting for Law Roach, I had the pleasure of crossing paths with another talented stylist, Cassy Meier. Cassy not only has become a close friend of mine but also a mentor who generously shares her advice with me ALL the time (literally will answer my calls in the middle of the night). In such a competitive industry, having women like Cassy in my corner has been so important. She’s been there to answer every single question and provide support, in a field that can be lonely sometimes.

I feel so lucky and grateful to have such a great support system around me. THANK YOU x a million to everyone!!!
