Meet Formal Entertainment

We had the good fortune of connecting with Formal Entertainment and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Formal Entertainment, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My passion for music and audio runs deep. I love perfecting sound quality, whether it’s comparing microphones, testing speakers, or designing sound systems. I could spend countless hours on it. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed many audio/visual companies lack this same passion, often overcharging and delivering poor customer service and presentation.
That’s why I started Formal Entertainment. I wanted there to be an option in Los Angeles for people to work with an AV company that loved what they do, was super friendly and accommodating, gave fair prices, and always showed up for work in formal attire.
I’ve always loved those vintage photos of audio engineers from the early days—back when they’d be decked out in sharp suits or lab coats while working. The classic aesthetic really resonates with me. Formal attire is our nod to the past, showing respect for both our clients as well as the craft of audio engineering itself.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I founded Formal Entertainment in 2020, just as Los Angeles was emerging from lockdown. During that time, many restaurants, hotels, and venues had been closed for an extended period, leaving their sound systems neglected and in disrepair. After designing and installing new sound systems or restoring existing ones to their former glory for a few clients, word of mouth spread quickly, and I began receiving numerous calls and referrals.
One of our standout projects was at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where we successfully revived their underwater speakers after many years of silence. Now, if you dive beneath the surface, you’re treated to a hidden playlist of classical music, while a more contemporary pop selection plays above the water—a unique experience that adds a touch of magic to their pool area.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Formal Entertainment has had the privilege of doing AV work for some of the best spots in Los Angeles. So when friends visit, I always take them to my favorite clients: Soho House for rooftop views and cocktails by the pool; Eataly for great pizza and gelato; Beverly Hills Hotel for a fantastic breakfast and underwater music; and Cipriani for great Italian food and live jazz.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Soho House, Tatel, and Beverly Hills Hotel were the first clients to come on board when I launched Formal Entertainment, and I’m tremendously grateful for their early support. Their trust in us provided a strong start and set the stage for us to collaborate with esteemed clients like UCLA, KCRW, the Beach Boys, Kamala Harris, and many more.
I’m especially thankful for the time I’ve spent working at UCLA. Through the training and mentoring I do there, I’ve been able to build a growing network full of talented, hardworking individuals including our new Marketing Manager, Greyson Suchecki. Greyson has been instrumental in our efforts to elevate Formal Entertainment to the premier AV rental company in Los Angeles.
I’m proud of the incredible team we have at Formal Entertainment. It’s the result of countless hours interviewing to find the strongest candidates then training and mentoring them to be the best versions of themselves as AV Technicians and well-rounded professionals.
As a result, our team is full of well-dressed, well-spoken, and respectful technicians who love what they do and strive for excellence each and every day. They are truly a pleasure to work with and I feel very blessed to have them on the Formal Entertainment team upholding our strong reputation in the industry.
