We had the good fortune of connecting with FOUNDRY LA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi FOUNDRY LA, what matters most to you?
We are a very human-oriented company, so empathy is at the core of how we function as a creative agency.

Design is intrinsically about empathy. And whether our team is creating a tiny thumbnail or a massive billboard, we try to put ourselves in the shoes of the viewer to understand how they will feel about our designs when they encounter them.

Also, we are a service-oriented business so we are always thinking about how to make our clients’ lives easier. The best way we know how to deliver exceptional service to our clients is by always giving a little extra effort to each project. Which is actually easy, because we do love what we do.

What should our readers know about your business?
Foundry was originally started out of a desire to “break the mold”. We used to all work together at another agency. We had a great run there and unfortunately that agency closed down in 2021. So we found ourselves in need of new jobs and our first instinct was to go look for new employers and new “work homes”.

The problem was that we all loved working together so much. We knew that it would be hard to start all over with new teams. There is something to be said about the creative rapport and trust that you can build from working with the same people for several years. You grow together and develop synergies that make you capable of incredible things that you can’t imagine accomplishing on your own.

It eventually occurred to us that we could actually start our own agency. Perhaps it wasn’t obvious to us right away because agency owners typically don’t look like us, but we just decided to give it a shot and we are very lucky to be in our third year of business.

To anyone considering starting a new business or going out on their own, we would say to take a chance on yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Yikes! That’s a hard question. Los Angeles is a diverse and sprawling city with so much to offer. You can find a great restaurant or spot no matter where you’re at.

Most recently, our team has been working on posters for a documentary short called Marionnettiste with a talented young filmmaker, Brandon Walsh. Brandon’s film centers around The Bob Baker Marionette Theater which is located in Highland Park. We did a photo shoot at the theater and all of our team agrees that it is a super special place. It’s a great place for parents to take their kids and their just something magical about the whole experience.

If you’re in the area, you just have to check it out for yourselves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would be nothing without our teachers and mentors, so we’d love to dedicate our shoutout to the amazing artists and creative minds who have come before us and led by example. Mentorship and taking time to help others who are just starting out in this industry is important to us – it’s the way that we learned and it’s the way that our industry will continue to grow and flourish.
