We had the good fortune of connecting with Francisco Mota and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Francisco, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I could remember I’ve had a creative mind. I’ve always had the idea that the light bulb is the perfect metaphor for creativity and ideas because, like the light bulb, great ideas often seem to turn on at the flick of the a switch. It’s that quick. Like artist creating art, GOD created the most beautiful art of all. LIFE. It surrounds us and we always have that question. What is art? Are we art? I have believed that we are. We think, we vision and dream. The creative mind never shuts down. That switch is always on and I knew that it was GOD’s creation of me that I must express my artistic gift to the world. I love how the design world has opened my artistic skills and has giving me the freedom to express my creativity. It is a gift that I must share with the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Every artist has been asked about their art and to explain their work. To establish that connection with the one expressing themselves through art and the one trying to feel the art The Critic. Some may argue that a picture is worth a thousand words and that art is self- explanatory. Growing up loving street art and urban culture, I never met any of the artist. So it wasn’t like I would hear them explain their work. I loved the freedom of feeling the art. Not having the artist explain to me what I am looking at or the things I should look for. I loved understanding what I see by myself. Let me feel your art. That is how I love my critics to see my art. Whether if positive or negative. I love expressing the art. Having the critic feel and express what they are looking at and not me having to tell them what to look for. Now having that ideology about your work. Is it easy. No. Because the professional world. You need to stand in front of your work and explain. That transition was difficult at the beginning. As it is. No professional artist likes to get criticized negative about their work. Trying to make the viewer understand. It is not easy. Those are challenges that I had to learn through out my career and understand that the art and design world is involved with money. So people want to understand what they are paying for. That is why I felt I had to star a brand called KREE8TIONS (creations) That express of creativity will always be criticized but the expression is yours. You control how to express your creativity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to San Francisco.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I could not go on and not give thanks to everyone that has helped me on my way to success. The one person that I hold dearly to my heart is Luz Marina Lopez. This was before I started design school and I was just working a part time job. She knew the artistic talent I had but I wasn’t doing anything with it. I knew I just needed to be pointed towards the right direction but it feels different when there is no one to point out the direction. It felt like I was at a red light and it never turned green. I recall her visiting Italy for a week or two and when she came back. She had gift for all of us. When she gave me mine, she said, I want to hear what your thoughts are on it. Because I was thinking of how much you would have loved the art in Italy. Opening up the gift it was a book. An Art school book on how to paint and draw. She asked on my thoughts on the gift and at the moment. I couldn’t say anything. I was at that red light. She asked for me to read the message to put. The inscription read ” You have a GOD given talent that could take you anywhere you want it to – use it to express the gift given. Your career is only as for as you want it to be”. With the word only being underlined she said. I know you must say why a book on how to draw I already know how to draw. I want you to see that most of us that have to learn how to draw. You don’t. That is something you already have. I knew at that moment. The light just turn green and I haven’t stopped expressing my gift.
