We had the good fortune of connecting with Fritzi Luca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fritzi, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Most people don’t realize how big of a role fitness can play during pregnancy and postpartum. Women are often under the impression it’s best to take it slow or stop working out completely to avoid putting stress on their bodies, but actually, the opposite is true. It’s essential for women to exercise during pregnancy to maintain their own health and well-being, as well as that of the growing baby. Working out can help alleviate pains and aches, manage weight gain, and even prepare women for labor. After all, childbirth is a workout marathon if there ever was one!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from other trainers is that I focus on prenatal and postnatal fitness. These areas don’t get a lot of attention in the fitness industry, especially in a city where it’s all about the “perfect body.” I see fitness not only as a means to get in shape physically but also mentally. Working out releases endorphins, lessens stress, and reduces anxiety. Pregnancy and postpartum might just be a woman’s most anxious and stressful time in her life, so working out during these times is especially important. I created workout videos for expecting moms and a pelvic floor restore program for after delivery, all available on my YouTube channel. Of course, I also do general workouts for women, who are neither pregnant nor postpartum. My goal is to build a community of like-minded women who support each other to stay active and fit.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the LA area is Malibu! I always take my visitors to Point Dume. The view is breathtaking! This is also where I had my maternity photoshoot when I was pregnant with my first baby. For shopping and dining, I go to the Malibu Country Mart. They also have a great playground for the kiddos!
Apart from Malibu, I like to take friends who are visiting for hikes, at Fryman Canyon or Griffith Park. The Getty Center is always worth a visit (so is the Getty Villa!), and I love outdoor movies during the summer.
There are so many wonderful places to eat in LA! A few of my favorites are Mirate in Los Feliz, Bon Vivant in Atwater Village, Bacari in Silverlake, and Avra in Beverly Hills.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t have been able to start Workout Mama without my husband, Chris. Not only did he teach me so much about fitness, he helped me create my own business and even came up with the name Workout Mama!
