We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabbi Music and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabbi, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
They say that this is the main question in life… what makes you happy. I’ve been searching an answer to that question whole my life. I’ve always been really determined what I want. If I want something, I’ll go after it and make it happen. That’s how you get many unique moments in your life.
I’m a person who needs goals in my life, something that I work towards to. I’ve overcome many obstacles in life, because I have ability to think outside of the box and I have determination to search for the solution, until I succeed.
Few years ago I drifted to a situation, and I didn’t know how to go on. I felt that I was trapped not only in my professional but also in my personal life. I had accomplished professionally pretty much everything I wanted. My personal life was also in crisis after very hurtful divorce. I had to come back to the basic question in my life: What makes me happy, and why?
I’ve also trusted my gut in many decisions in my life. I believe that I know, when something is good for me. I also believe, that I have a power to make my life how I like it to be. So if I’m not happy, I make a change. That’s how I ended up to beautiful Los Angeles, California and finally received permanent resident status. Here I feel excited about all the opportunities, sunshine and new point of views. Every morning is a new chance and a new possibility to enjoy life.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started Gabbi Music Entertainment LLC three years ago. It was a start for an interesting new era in my life. I’ve always before worked for someone else. As an entrepreneur I have a power to make my company how I like it to be but I also have a lot of responsibilities. If I don’t make things happen, nothing will happen. On the other hand I can choose what I want to do and when. It takes a lot of courage and determination.
The whole point to start my own company was, that I wanted to use all my skills. I have experience from many different areas and I wanted to explore more. I can now gather all my skills under the umbrella of my company. By this far I do several things:
* I teach in Finnish school in Los Angeles music and Finnish language
* I teach Finnish language for private students
* I’m substitute teacher in elementary schools in Los Angeles area
* I perform as an artist, singer, violinist and pianist
* I’m professional high fashion makeup artist and hairstylist for Soona and for private clients
* I’m graduated eyelash technician and beauty professional
* I’m almost graduated EMT
* I’m professional model
* I’m professional violin, piano and vocal teacher
It hasn’t been easy to get to this point. When I moved to LA almost 5 years ago, I came to study music business to UCLA Extension music business program. It was a long process to get a permanent resident status and get a working permit. Until that I wasn’t able to work, because I wanted to obey all the laws and rules. When I got my legal status I had possibility to start planning. So my company is still in process.
It has taken a lot of determination to get where I am today. I’m still not finished. There’s always way to go. That’s exciting and inspiring.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh that’s a difficult question. I feel that Los Angeles has so much to offer. I would definitely taker her to the beaches that are one of the greatest places in the city. I would also introduce to her the greatest mountain areas like Mammoth Mountain and Big Bear. I would be excited to explore with her the different kind of food options in the city, along American food also southern authentic food like Salvadoran food in Restaurant Jutiapa.
This city never sleeps so I would also check out incredible concerts, shows and sport events. Here’s so much to see and experience so week would probably not be enough time to see everything .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give credit to all those inspiring people who I have met in my journey here in United States. I’ve met beauty professionals like CJ Jetphukthai in Hollywood Makeup School, Bylle Stasi in STAY cosmetics and lashes, Virginia Valverde, makeup artist, hairstylist and lash techinician. I have inspiring friends in music business like Anika Paris and Bobby Borg from UCLA Extension, Matt Schokley (artist) and Miska Kajanus (musician, comedian). Health care professionals like Barbara Razo, Big Bear ski patrol, Kayla Harrell in West Coast EMT. Amazing fellow models all over United States like Noreen Belz (LA), Anita Lain (Chicago) and Marsa Clark (Seattle). Amazing family that has taken me for the part of their family and who have been my home in a new country.
I want to thank these people and all the others along my journey here.
