We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriel Acosta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriel, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“To photograph: it is to put on the same line of sight the head, the eye and the heart.” Cartier Bresson’s This phrase for me is the simplest definition of what I seek to do in my work, many times people believe that in order to take good photographs and show something different, it is first necessary to think about concepts, equipment, lights or lenses, but the truth is always something simpler and deeply.

For me, photographing requires putting my head and my heart into the world I explore, the curiosity of what my eyes see is always the first door for photography to find me and my job is be ready to capture it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the most difficult lessons for me to learn was always to be different and not be afraid to show it, but above all to be, many times when I started in this world it was strange for me to live with my camera daily or play with the world around me and then photograph it.

Learning to love my oddities helps me find myself and have that conversation with that unknown side full of curiosity and intrigue for what it sees and what it feels.

The way I see things, places or events are the main guidelines of my art, a place where emotion and nostalgia converge and show things in a new way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Your success is nothing if you don’t have someone to support you. In my case, in this journey I want to thank my father for always supporting me and helping me find new horizons, my friends for always motivating me to continue creating and always helping me beyond the photograph. I give them credit for the many times they have encouraged me to keep going and discover new things.
