Meet Gabriela Alvarado Pasko | Disability Advocate, Arts Consultant, Career Coach, and Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela Alvarado Pasko and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriela, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
For me consistency and discipline! As a classically trained musician, these two habits were ingrained in me very early. I have applied them to all aspects of my life, including my career, chronic illness care, relationships, and self-care. I firmly believe that these habits are the foundation of success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have built my career around flute playing, career coaching, disability advocacy, and community building. What sets me apart is my unique ability to merge music and personal development in an inspiring and transformative way. With a background in arts administration, I have always been deeply committed to making classical music accessible and relatable to all.
I am most proud of MY ability to break down the traditional barriers between classical musicians and audiences. My passion for inclusivity shines through everything I do, whether performing on stage or working one-on-one with artists through career coaching sessions. I view coaching as a process akin to having “a fairy godparent that helps you figure out where you are, who you are, where you want to be, and how to get there.” Through my coaching, I am helping emerging artists realize their full potential, guiding them through the challenges of building a career while staying true to their artistic vision.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Like many artists, I have faced numerous challenges along the way—navigating the often rigid world of classical music while pushing to create something more inclusive. One of the key lessons I have learned is that perseverance and adaptability are essential. Instead of seeing barriers as unconquerable, I reframe them as opportunities for growth and creativity.
Through projects like the “Women in Music” series and the “Amaranti Ensemble,” I am shaping my own path and creating spaces where other artists can thrive. I am passionate about building community, both within the arts and beyond.
I like to say that my story is of resilience, innovation, and a deep love for both music and the people it touches. Her vision is a world where classical music knows no boundaries, and where creativity flourishes, bringing people together in meaningful ways. Through my work, I am to empower others to break down barriers and follow their passions.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Nothing I love more than to show friends around. Boston has a bit of everything for everyone. I would start with coffee at “El Recreo” or “Monumental Market.” Evergreen Eatery could be a fantastic option too if we are hungry. Time outside even in winter is vital – whether it is walking Commonwealth Ave up to the Public Garden and into Boston Commons to Quincy Market for more food that we can sit and eat at my favorite spot by the Boston Harbor. More coffee at Cafe Vittoria and some baked goods at Bova’s and ending with dinner in the north end!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The list would be too long but for the purpose of this interview here is a summary:
My mother taught me that hard work, perseverance, and a smile can conquer the world!
My sister has been my backbone for my entire adult life!
Teachers and mentors, during my college and grad school years, at Atlantic Union College and the Longy School of Music.
To my team of doctors, the ones that have helped me not give up my career and to continue to have the best quality of life I can have – especially Dr. Yein Lee, Dr. Amer Suleman, Dr. Michael York, Dr. Kelly Belisnky, and Dr. Philip Blazar.
To friends that have become family. Life as an immigrant in this country is not easy AT ALL!!! My chosen family has been crucial to my success.
Lastly, my husband, for being the most supportive human being on earth!
