We had the good fortune of connecting with Garrett Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garrett, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Every decision I’ve made has been a risk. Starting a studio not in a major music city, putting more money than I had into the studio which had no guarantee of making a dime, quitting and turning down other job positions to go full time on my own, etc. I really see no reward if I don’t take risk. There’s of course action steps to make sure I don’t fall flat on my face but really I only see the way forward by diving head first into the deep end and just relying on my faith that this is what I’m supposed to be doing and that it’ll all work out. It’s given me everything I have and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The reason I believe people work with me and my studio GDA Productions, is because were genuinely care about the artist as a person first. It’s odd to think of the music as not the top priority in a music studio, but the person is the only reason that music exists and we want them to feel comfortables being vulnerable and confident to share that and our job is to capture their story and give it the best light possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love downtown Annapolis in the summer. It’s super vibrant and fun and has so much character. I personally love seeing comedy shows and I think going to the DC Improv or Magooby’s is a great way to explore the area and get something to eat before hand at a fun restaurant and spend the night laughing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife is one of the most supportive of my dreams, and has been since day one back in 2015 when we were just kids. She thought it was crazy of course but she also saw how passionate I was and she believed I could do it and jumped in the deep end with me. Also my parents who allowed me the start and continue to support. It all started in their basement in high school and they gave me the resources and opportunities they didn’t have to give.
