We had the good fortune of connecting with Garry Clare and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Garry, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Creating statement pieces that not only empower, but give voice to the discrimination and hurt millions of people have endured, is one way I’m able to give back to, not only my community, but the world.

As a black man who grew up in Los Angeles, I have experienced the effects of racism firsthand. So when the protests happened last year during the pandemic, I felt compelled to design clothing that could accurately convey the hurt and frustration that the Black and Brown community has felt and continues to feel.

I designed a piece called “America has failed us again” that was featured on FoxNews11 and Good Morning America. It was a bold statement that resonated with my community in a huge and impactful way.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

As a self taught designer, I set out on a journey to create clothing as unique as the people who wear them.

Growing up in Inglewood, and working in fashion boutiques in West L.A. and Beverly Hills, helped to shape my love of culturally diverse styles.

By blending individuality with exclusivity, I am able to design and create elevated street wear to help other bold visionaries dress for the life they want to live.

Through fashion, I am able to help others find the confidence to achieve their dreams and make their mark on the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d hit up Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles for some breakfast. Then we’d drive down Venice Beach, rent some bikes and take a ride up to Santa Monica pier. After that, we’d grab dinner and drinks at BJ’s and order a pizookie to end the evening. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout a few people Who have made an impact on my journey.

Christine Devine from FoxNewsLA for always sharing her platform and allowing me to express my vision.

T.J. Walker, Founder and Creative Director of Cross Colours LA, for being a mentor and sharing his knowledge of the fashion business with me over the years.

And last but not least, my fiancé Sarah Luna, my partner in life for her support and being a part of my journey.
