Meet Gary Brown | CEO/Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gary Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gary, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Intelligent risk taking is a necessity when building one’s career. Over time it also becomes harder to do because when you are new to a career without a family it is easier to take risks. When you become more established, have a family, it becomes harder to do because of the potential repercussions . The fact remains though, if you want to make a big jump financially or position-wise in your career it involves some level of risk taking. Years ago, I learned a question to ask myself, what is the worst thing that can happen? If the risk doesn’t work out, can you get a job? Can you still provide for your family? The answer was yes, because ultimately I believed in my ability. Don’t get me wrong risk taking can be a very humbling experience as well. My biggest risk was in 2021 my corporate job with a major media company was ending due to a change of control. Deep down I knew I wanted to do something where I ran my own business, but in the television industry I didn’t see a demand for another news consultant, so I decided not to pursue it. I interviewed for jobs, none of which I really wanted because they involved a move to a place I didn’t want to live. So, I kept looking for the right thing, taking time for it to appear. Then, the opportunity to purchase my current company came up, I jumped at it as it was a way for me to do what I ultimately wanted but also buying an established brand. Two years later, while there are aspects of my old job I miss, I wouldn’t trade the place I am at now.

In Los Angeles, I would take friends to Sunday Brunch at the Soho House. Dinners at Katana, Nobu, Maestros, Republique, Shutters on the beach. Trips to Santa Monica, Laguna, Big Bear. a night out in Beverly Hills, shopping at the grove, trips to Chinatown, Olvera Street.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There were so many over the years who have been influential in my career, but here are a few names. My current business partner and friend Patrick McCreery. We have worked together and for each other multiple times and I wouldn’t trade it. He’s a friend first and business partner second. Also, one of the first owners I worked for as a News Director, Sandy DiPasquale. He taught me the real business of the tv business. He also gave me equity in the company and it set me up financially and professionally for years to come.
