We had the good fortune of connecting with Geoffrey Dicker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Geoffrey, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks can surely be scary but I’ve often found that staying stagnant has far more negative consequences. I moved to New York and Chicago with no real plan and everyone thought I was crazy. I had faith that something good would happen and lo and behlold, it always does. It would be so easy to repeat the same winning formula over and over again in my work, but I continually want to grow and challenge myself. I think that shows in the diversity of my art.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is abstract and very colorful. Each canvas can be rotated and viewed from multiple angles, creating a dynamic and interactive experience that encourages the viewer to actively engage with the work. This fluidity of form reflects the ever-changing nature of our environment and invites the viewer to see the world from a new perspective.

I am so proud of the hundreds of art works I’ve created in my art life, but I am always most excited for the next painting.

I’ve had a lot of doors slammed in my face, but that has not and will not detract me. “Don’t give up” is the best advice I have been given and it’s the best advice I can pass on. A lot of people think that being an artist is all glitz and glamour, but it is a lot of hard work, going back to the drawing board and trying to figure out a new path. I’ve been in the creative world for almost 2 decades and I repeat this mantra to myself daily!

What I would like the world to know is that my art is meant to uplift your mood and brighten your day so please share the joy!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My “perfect day” would probably consist of breakfast at Farmer’s Market on 3rd and Fairfax, a visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, a trip to Amoeba Music and then a drive by the beach. In this perfect world, traffic doesn’t exist. Los Angelinos will appreciate that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Miami based artist Carl Paoli has been hugely influential in my life. The nature of our relationship continues to evolve. We first met when I wrote about art and I covered his work. We became friendly after that and Carl and I collaborated on seven of my book covers. As I started painting again, Carl has been there for me to give me guidance and to cheer me on. I am so grateful! Thank you Carl!
