We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerson Lemus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gerson, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to start my own business because I wanted to work for something I truly believed in. Working since 16 has shown me that skill can always be taught but work ethic and personality is something that cannot be taught. A good business is one that has purpose and passion from the top to the bottom, and I saw myself creating an environment that had that throughout the business in an industry that was lacking it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
J’Bez started as an idea to bring a like-able and reliable service to a community that would appreciate it. We understood that in our market, their wasn’t a business that dominated our area and our initial goal was to be that. We knew that it wouldn’t happen overnight or with just a 2-3 person team but patience allowed us to grow into a team of 10+ members that do different things to make our business unique. Our diversity and willingness to share information makes a team that is always learning and mastering our craft. From marketing strategies to service experience, J’Bez is a place for innovation and that is what ultimately sets us apart from others. The biggest takeaway from our journey here is that in business, you have to be willing to put in 110% dedication and have the patience to see your success come to light. Surrounding yourself with the right group will advance your success as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was coming to town, I would take them over to my business first to make sure they are all cleaned up and looking their best. Then I would show them my old roots at UCR where I attended my undergraduate program. Then to eat, I would go to one of my favorite spots, Habanero Grill located in Riverside, CA. You can’t go wrong with their enchiladas! To end the day, a great spot to take them would be downtown Riverside where they have good options to drink or hangout at. As far as it goes for the rest of the week, well I think that’s where Riverside has its gems. It is located about an hour away from many attractions like that beach, LA city, the snow mountains, San Diego, and only a few hours away from Vegas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without the support of my family, friends, and customers I would be where I am today. I wanted to give a special shout-out to the team at my business because they have shown their loyalty not only during the good times, but also during the difficult times. Having a great group of people believing in your vision is what fuels our success; it’s what creates our unique atmosphere.
