Meet GESHIE: Musician / Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with GESHIE and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi GESHIE, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
There is a quote by James Baldwin that I adore and it says “ If it hurts you that’s not what is important. Everyone is hurt. What is important , what Bull whips you what corrals you what drives you what torments you is that you must find some way of using this to connect you with everyone else that is alive this is all you have to do it with you must understand that your pain is trivial except so far that you use it to connect with other peoples pain and if you can do that with your pain you can be released from it and then hopefully it works the other way around to”. Whenever I think of giving up I always think about this quote and how my life purpose is to be of service to others. One of those main services is sharing my pain, my joy, my life through art . Music is a conversation between pauses of silence and moments of awareness and through those pauses I try to be an open channel. That is how I know to keep going on by using every aspect of my life to be the driving force for beauty in someone else’s that is the only way I can create without limitations.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Where can I begin, to me Art is here to prove and help us bear that all safety is an illusion, with that being said I think there is no one place to get to when you create without limitations there are still places to go and there is never a peak when you love what you do and that is what I aim to do with my art and my life. Professionally I am working on my debut album and working alongside individuals that truly inspire me. Along the way I learned that being an open channel was better for me specifically because I felt more connected to the source of inspiration instead of forcing something that wasn’t inside of me. I guess what I want the world to know is that the cheap cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what you want most for what you want right now, have patience and put the work in and the results unfold in due time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently moved to LA so I am still getting familiar with the area but where I would take my friend would be to start the day with some sort of hike. I enjoy Griffith Park the most so far from the hikes I have taken. The view of the city is breathtaking and I think when nature is incorporated into our daily lives we have a wider scope of the universe outside of us. Next I love home cooking and creating amazing dishes in a more relaxed way but I do love the matcha drinks and delicious food from Urth which is pretty much the most LA thing I guess I could say but the food is bomb and healthy which is awesome. Lastly and most importantly we would have to check out the art and music scene going on in LA by going to open mics and discovering new voices, walking around the neighborhoods and seeing beautiful street art is a well day spent in my opinion.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My main role models have always been my mother and my sister as well as art itself. The way they both introduced literature, movies and music into my life revolutionized the way I saw and began to create my own art. When I speak of art specifically as a role model the individuals that dared to dream to create something that breathes life into so many others truly inspires me.
