Meet Giovanna Caruso | Film Director and Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Giovanna Caruso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Giovanna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As a film Producer and Director, taking risks is part of the job. Every decision made throughout the process comes with a certain amount of risk and the only way to minimize damage is by careful thinking and planning as much as possible for most negative outcomes. My first risk was definitely leave my country and my family behind in order to pursue a dream that most people believe to be impossible to reach.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like in LA 80% of the residence have some dream that involves the entertainment business so I never defined myself as special, but I take pride in the stories I tell and the difference I’m trying to make in this world with them. My stories absorb the dramatic spark of the Italian cinema where emotions run wild but I’ve also adopted some American traits making my filming completely unique.
In my films all minorities will always feel loved, encouraged and represented.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I believe hitting the studios is a must when visiting this beautiful city and I am particularly in love with Downtown Burbank especially during the holidays. If I had to name a bar or restaurant it’ll probably be The Ruby Fruit (Gotta support the lesbians) and Il Pastaio in Beverly Hills to feel closer to home when I miss it too much.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom and sister and definitely my daughter Eleonora for always believing and encouraging my dreams even when they seem crazy. But I also have to thank my very best friend and business partner Mike Whitehead because without him I wouldn’t have taken certain steps in my career. They are my rock.
