We had the good fortune of connecting with Gisele Joves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gisele, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued acting and singing as a need to fill a hole in my creative abilities. Ever since I was little I loved movies, music, and beauty. I would admire how my dad would sing and looked up to him in that sense. He was in the military and had a family to support so he never pursued his dream of singing. When he passed away I learned that he would sing to his coworkers and anyone who would listen. That really stuck with me. I had gone through a big breakup and decided to go for acting as I dabbled in it through college. I had always loved movies and TV shows so I finally decided to really go for it.
I loved musicals and plays growing up so as I pursued acting I decided to take singing lessons through Studio 2628 with Music Producer and coach, Ashton Barkho. During 2017 I had gone through a breakup felt the need to start writing songs and go within myself and my journey. I instantly fell in love with songwriting and producing. I had more creative control and a beautiful outlet to express myself artistically. I had found a more fulfilling purpose in my artistic journey.
I released the song ” Queen of the Night” in 2022. Now my love for writing and singing can’t be held back anymore. Three more songs have been released since then.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel that my music is eclectic and different in the sense that it takes you through a story and a journey. I just create music that comes to me and didn’t think of an audience. Singing/songwriting is an my creative outlet. I literally pull movie scenes from my head and draw a story I want people to resonate with. The biggest challenge for me is marketing my music. As a creative it is a challenge to get your music out within millions of other creatives. I have really dug deep into seeing how to market so you can reach a bigger audience. I feel that my message is authentic and hope to reach my tribe.
I would have to say being vigilant in my pursuit of singing/songwriting and constantly working on my art is how I overcome the challenge. I also do my research on other independent artists on how they get out their music out there via social media outlets. A true belief in myself and my abilities can only make me better.
My belief in the power of manifestation and meditation has helped guide me in this industry. As I spiritually become aligned my creative senses kick in too. There has been times where I have been meditating and a new song comes to me.
I believe what sets my music apart from others is that it’s deeper than a bop. It’s a mix of EDM, pop, house, and new age feel. I’m about the story and how it makes you feel. I feel some kind of way and realize I can’t be the only one that thinks like this. So it’s kind of a subtle message to my audience of do you feel this way? Because if you do I see you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh wow this is an interesting question but hands down I would say I would take my best friend out to my home country, Phillipines and then to Bali. Palawan Coron, and El Nido beaches are phenomenal in the Phillipines. I actually planned a trip with one of my best friends and she tried a Filipino dish I love called Kare Kare and she loved it. It was nice to share my culture with her. It was around the time of my birthday so I felt a sense of pride for my home country. The tour guides in the Phillipines are hilarious and show the tourists a great time too! Bali has a special place in my heart because there was a time I felt stuck in my career and in songwriting. When I feel stuck I like to leave the country and get a new perspective. As soon as I got on the plane to Bali I immediately finished writing a song. Then I met some of the most eclectic people from all over the world. I met models, masseuses, yoga instructors, DJ’s, restaurant managers, life coach, personal fitness coaches, drivers, and a saxophone player who welcomed me with open arms. I would say it’s eye opening! I checked out La Istana which is an amazing Spa overlooking the cliff and you have to check in your phone so no social media just sauna, pool, and meditation. The sunsets on the beaches in Cangu and La Brisa Beach are awe inspiring. The waterfalls and rice fields in UBud are breathtaking and mesmerizing. Sundays Beach Club, Uma Ceking Resort, El Kabron Beach Club, and Sevaya Dance Club are all worth going to in Bali. I was treated with such warm hearts and kindness that I started to get more inspired in my art! I wrote two more songs. Everywhere I went I was inspired.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Music Producer (Studio 2628) and coach, Ashton Barkho has helped me find the courage and voice within myself to really go for my dreams. I also have to give a shoutout to a dear talented friend and fellow singer and vocal coach, Victoria Renee Hand. She has been nothing but supportive and helpful in her ability to not only inspire me but encourage me in my singing career. I also would like to thank my acting manager, Ron Williams (WMES Management) who encourages me as I pursue my acting career. In my professional and personal life, my Spiritual Mentor and Reiki Healer, Starlett Christine Navarette has helped guide me to manage stresses and to manifest in my life. My mentor and entertainment manager, John Askew President of FUBU (Foryoubyyou) Studios had been nothing short of an angel as he guided me to pursue my music and other projects to come. His advise in the industry is amazing.
